Joe Biden embracing republicans hurts democrats down ticket. To win the House and Senate the democrats need to tie all Republicans to Trump policies. You can’t do that if you seek their help.
I disagree. Centrists are what got us into this mess. Christie was a horrible governor and a horrible person. If he wants to promote Biden on his own he could. There are better ways to attract more voters than trying to appeal to Repub politicians that no one likes. When Hillary embraced Kissinger in 2016 she lost all credibility with Bernie voters. Let’s not make similar mistakes.
I could not agree with this more. We need less emphasis on celebrity fundraisers (IE: upcoming OBama, Clooney, etc event coming up). Those are very important and I celebrate them, but that IMO is the big mistake Hilary made in 2016. While she partied with all the celebrity endorsers, tRump went after the "silent majority". We saw the outcome. I hope and believe that courting the moderate republicans (I was one of them) is vital to Biden and DNC. Believe or not, there are a few smart and compassionate republicans out there who clearly see the danger that the orange menace and MAGA presents.
Trump never got the silent majority. Hillary got the silent majority by over 3 million votes. If you moderates see the "danger that the orange menace and MAGA presents" then vote for Biden. As Trump has no policies except revenge then you should want to save democracy and vote for Biden. How about you "moderates" loosen up a bit and stop the republicon chaos.
"Believe or not, there are a few smart and compassionate republicans out there" <-- yes, but the idea that Christie is among the "compassionate" is certainly risible. Anyway, Biden doesn't need Christie's "help": Trump is going down anyway, according to Christie's own calculation (one of the few points where I would agree with him). Enlisting Christie as VP would rightly been seen as pathetic and desperate, and inimical to Biden's aims.
Sorry, I remember Chris Christie getting in a pissing match with a local official and closing bridges and beaches during 100 degree heat, then lolling with his wife illegally at the beach while people suffered. Who you are is who you are. Christie is at best a opportunist.
Oof. I think this is a *terrible* idea. Chris Christie has proven himself to be a toxic, malevolent bully who has been part of the problem with Republicans for decades on their way down toward MAGA madness. Do not forget that Christie was a Trump apologist until quite recently, after predicting Trump's downfall after the indictments -- a political calculation, more than anything. Christie is a political animal pure and simple, and aligned against the general aims of the Democratic party -- and I wouldn't put it past him to try to thwart and subvert these aims if he were VP. Screw that guy.
Anyone counting on Christie's support should take his words with a grain of salt. He's stated in the past how given a choice between Trump and Biden he'd vote for Biden. Christie is likely to stick with that on policy alone. Voters have to remember that policy-wise Christie and Trump aren't that far apart.
This is not too different from Reagan Republicans like former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan who despise Trump yet vote for someone not running (e.g., Reagan) out of spite for both parties. Hogan is running for Senate by the way. Marylanders have to take into account that despite his popularity as a governor in a blue state he'd be a Trojan Horse for the GOP as the deciding vote on justices and confirmations.
Christie is likely to want the same conservative outcomes.
I think for the most part Biden has good advisors surrounding him, but not so much whoever's running his re-election campaign. And why didn't anyone strongly suggest, right from the beginning, replacing Harris? Even though I have very little in common with Republican values, I still like Chris Christie. He would have been more effectual than either candidate we're left with. And why does no one talk about the fact that we're probably going to have the vice president take over before 4 years are up? That's' something important to think about, more than ever.
Biden needs to call out media by name on Fox news etc , PBD podcast, Joe Rogan etc
Republican Presidents Reagan bush sr bush jr trump give tax cuts to rich and boom and bust economies and recessions under dems u get good economies Clinton Obama Biden the last 50million jobs created 48 million were under democratic presidents the data is undeniable facts over feelings . Economy always better under dems call out the corporate media .
David, I disagree with you about President Biden reaching out to Christie. Have you heard the scrap that comes out of Christie's mouth about President Biden? This bullshit you pundits spread about Biden has to go more to the center is nonsense. The people of this country support the policies from the left (abortion, healthcare, climate change, jobs and much more). Christie is not a popular politician. Just wait until November and whine about going to the center. So disappointed in you!
I completely agree. Joe should contact Chris Christie and offer him a post in his administration. They are both on the same page and need each other for moral support.
You're 100% right, David. Joe Biden definitely needs to court the support of Chris Christie, Nikki Haley, Adam Winzinger, Liz Cheney, Mitt Romney, Michael Cohen, and all of the rest. And do it right away! No time to waste! Let's do it, man! Come on Biden, wake up and get out there! You need to be seen every day by the American people, every day from now until November. Do it, man, you have to, to save American democracy. If you do it and win, the history books will record that you saved America from totalitarianism. No greater truth could be attached to your record in the history books than that you saved American democracy. So, go for it, Joe, every day from now to voting day in November. (Obviously I am hoping Biden will see this message or have it brought to his attention. Or maybe David, you will send it on to him, to encourage him to keep going on the path of truth.)
Excuse me but our President has work to do besides being "out there". The people know who will save democracy and it's not the orange jesus. It's up to the people to save democracy and they know which candidate will do it. How about you take your cheerleading to your community and leave the President handle the country?
Sorry, Kathleen, but that won't cut it. Biden needs to get out there and be seen, every day, fighting to save democracy and the future of America. Along with all of his supporters. This is how Biden can 'handle the country,' as you put it. Sitting on his behind in the Oval office while Trump is making his presence felt by every possible means will not win Biden votes. He needs to get out there and do the business, full stop!
Instead of changing course and supporting policies and politics popular amongst a potential democratic voter based (youth, working class) that are also simply morally correct (Israel/Palestine) and empirically better for working class folks (progressive economic policies), the strategy is to further shift rightwards to support/embrace neoconservative politics and politicians (that have already lost ideologically within their own party vs. the right wing fascistic elements)in an effort to court a very niche voting block?
Do you want the Democrats to continue losing elections they should be dominating?
David, reaching out to Christie only makes sense if what is offered to Christie is palatable. Barf level would be too make him Secretary of Transportation of course. But he could offer Christie Secretary of education, interior, or defense, but these would not be great fit either.
The only thing I see Biden being able to offer Christie that he would want is an appointment as The National Director of Corrections. It would be rather sweet for Christie to oversee Trump's imprisonment for the rest of his life.

Correction: Given a choice Christie would vote for Trump.
Mitt Romney and Liz Cheney or even Haley are not moderate Republicans. They are conservatives.
The last thing Biden needs is to be pulled further right.

I liked Christie in the primary … sorta sad to see him drop out.
Bullshit. If R's oppose Trump say so and keep saying so. Moral conviction should not require Biden's imprimatur.
