Lunatic Lawyer Says Trump Still President, Controls Military
Lin Wood, pro-Trump attorney who was involved in trying to overturn the election results, says that Trump is still president and could order the military into action or to authorize a strike. Wood was speaking in front of a crowded indoor maskless audience recently in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and he responded to voters’ fears about the country supposedly falling apart without Trump in charge. Wood told everyone, “Donald J. Trump has never conceded yet because he won the election. So be cool. It’s all going to be a good time.” According to Wood, Trump signed the Insurrection Act in private and the military knows that Trump still controls it. He said the military would ignore orders from Joe Biden, playing into the narrative that Biden has never really been in charge. Wood wrapped up the pro-Trump rhetoric in some Christian prayer, making it sound as though god has determined that this is all part of the plan.
This speech really was a treasure trove of gold. The rantings sound so far off from reality that it is puzzling to think that people really believe this nonsense. But it makes sense that committed Trump supporters would buy into it. There are millions of people in the country who trust the ex-president’s word more than anything else. Many bought into the lie that massive dumps of ballots flipped the outcome of the 2020 election. And many of these same people are walking around the US right now filling up plastic shopping bags with gasoline while refusing to take a safe vaccine to end a pandemic. So long as these Trump supporters need to grieve for their loss and believe that Trump was cheated and not defeated, grifters like Lin Wood will be there to pander to them.
UH-OH: Trump's Lawyer will Testify About Trump's Obstruction
Former Trump White House counsel Don McGahn will have to testify before the House Judiciary Committee behind closed doors. The topic of the interview will be Donald Trump’s attempts to obstruct justice in Robert Mueller’s Trump-Russia investigation. According to a court filing, the hearing will be happening “as soon as possible" and a transcript of the testimony will be released a few days after. For years, the Trump administration did its best to stop this meeting from happening but now they have exhausted their options and McGahn will be forced to appear before Congress. While there is some small chance that this will lead to bombshell revelations, the more likely outcome is that McGahn will continually assert executive privilege and not answer some of the more scandalous or damaging questions. Now with Trump out of office and subject to criminal prosecution like anyone else, the Russia coverup is just one of many possible criminal acts that the former president has to be stressing over.
From yesterday’s show:
Ohio Offering $5 Million Lottery for Getting Vaccinated
Ohio has come up with a fascinating incentive program to encourage people to get the COVID vaccine. Republican Governor Mike DeWine has announced that for five weeks starting on May 26th, vaccinated adults will be able to enter a drawing to win $1 million. DeWine went on Fox News to respond to criticisms that this is a waste of money. He pointed out that that’s awfully shortsighted because more people getting vaccinated will stimulate a quicker economic turnaround and it has the bonus of saving lives. Ohio is not the first state to come up with a vaccine incentive program like this. West Virginia is giving out $100 savings bonds to young people who get the shots. Some businesses like Krispy Kreme, Budweiser, and Nathan's Hot Dogs are offering freebies for getting vaccinated as well. All of these are interesting approaches and hopefully we’ll keep hearing about more of them.
