They're Blaming VIDEO GAMES for Buffalo Shooting
A horrific mass shooting took place over the weekend in Buffalo, New York that resulted in ten people losing their lives and three more injured. The attack took place at a Tops Friendly Markets grocery store and part of it was livestreamed on Twitch by the shooter until it was taken down. Of the thirteen victims, eleven were black and two were white and this was not by coincidence. This is being investigated as a hate crime as it appears the shooter went deliberately to a black neighborhood to commit the act. The shooter is white and 18 years old. He was wearing body armor, a military-grade helmet, and was armed with three weapons: a semiautomatic rifle, a hunting rifle and a shotgun. The suspect was captured alive and arraigned in the Buffalo city court. Without missing a beat, there were folks on the right trying to distract from this attack since it was committed by a great replacement theory-believing right winger. Some conservatives did what they’ve been doing for forty years which is to blame video games. In truth, this seems to have been motivated by a mix of conservative propaganda, mental health challenges, and easy access to firearms.
We Went to the Trump Texas Rally. It Was a Disaster
David Pakman Show Correspondent Luke Beasley went to the Trump rally in Austin, Texas over the weekend and the interviews he did with Trump supporters were mind-boggling. One of the people Luke interviewed had a sign with him making the case that Joe Biden has been weak on immigration. When Luke pointed out to him that people are still routinely being detained and deported at the southern border, the man seemed confused and refused to believe it was happening. Two other people were interviewed on the topic of supposed voter fraud in the 2020 election, and while they admitted it would be possible for Donald Trump to lose fair in square in 2024, they thought there was no way it could have happened in 2020. Another person said that while they don’t have hard facts to support the belief that Trump won in 2020, it’s “just a feeling” that he did. Though these exchanges are often depressing to watch, perhaps they will get some of these people thinking and eventually get to the point where they change their minds.
From over the weekend:
Jordan Peterson Weeps Over Climate Activism
Jordan Peterson is back on the speaking trail and at a recent appearance at Stanford University he wept over the issue of climate change. But Peterson didn’t shed tears over humans irreversibly destroying the planet. Rather, he was upset that climate activists are making people anxious about the topic. Jordan said, “that’s no message for young people. There’s no excuse for that. And you think we’re going to destroy the planet . . . and I’m passionate about this because you have no idea how many people that’s killing. You have no idea. I see people everywhere all over the world, they’re so demoralized — especially young people.” Peterson was visibly upset over young people having to be concerned about the future of the planet. But what would be deeply immoral would be to hide the disastrous effects of climate change from them so that there’s no chance for humans to ever deal with it.
From over the weekend:
The Left Needs Better Abortion Arguments
A viewer who goes by “Slug” wrote in and made the case that the left needs better arguments in favor of abortion rights. The right believes abortion is murder, so the state should handle it as if it were murder and punish the woman and health care provider accordingly. Slug’s idea is that the left should counter this by arguing that abortion is more like organ or tissue donation in terms of the legal framework. Some people are in dire need of a transplant but that doesn’t mean we take organs or tissue from someone who doesn’t want to donate it. If forcing these types of donations are considered too invasive for anyone to talk about doing by law, how is forcing a woman to lend her uterus for a fetus to develop acceptable when it’s even more of an invasion of her privacy and bodily autonomy? Slug believes it’s incumbent of the right to make the case that fetuses deserve more rights than everyone else and feels that should make up a greater part of the conversations about the issue.
