Bush TRIGGERS MAGA, Likens Trump Rioters to 9/11 Terrorists
While Donald Trump provided boxing commentary at a casino in Fort Lauderdale, other former American Presidents were commemorating the twentieth anniversary of the September 11th attacks. George W. Bush made a speech that managed to especially trigger the Trumpian wing of the Republican Party. He said, "we have seen growing evidence that the dangers to our country can come not only across borders but from violence that gathers within . . . they are children of the same foul spirit and it is our continuing duty to confront them." On Twitter, there are right wingers trying to claim Bush was referring to Black Lives Matter or Antifa protesters, but it’s obvious who the former president was actually referring to. Bush was alluding to the insurrectionists who sieged the Capitol on January 6th in an effort to end democracy in the United States and install Trump as president for a second term. Bush managed to upset folks on the left as well with this speech, by arguing that his military actions in Afghanistan and Iraq made sense. This is a reminder that Bush is no figure to be glorified and his reputation should not be reformed. However, it also goes to show how nutty the American right has become when George W. Bush can come across as somewhat reasonable compared to the lunacy and selfishness of Donald Trump.
Trump Does Boxing Commentary on 9/11 20th Anniversary
Saturday was the twentieth anniversary of the September 11th attacks and Donald Trump spent his evening doing commentary for a boxing match. President Biden and former Presidents Obama, Bush, and Clinton attended and spoke at a number of events and commemorations. Trump stopped by the World Trade Center site without participating in any of the events and then made his way to Hollywood, Florida to do a paid boxing commentary gig. The match was between mixed martial artist Vitor Belfort and a 58-year-old Evander Holyfield that was billed as the “most anticipated heavyweight fight of the year” with “full live in person commentary by President Trump.” Donald Trump Jr. was also there to provide analysis alongside his father. The commentary was not insightful at all, which should come as no surprise since the Trumps know next to nothing about boxing and this was simply a grift to sell pay-per-view tickets. But the bottom line is that if Biden, Obama, or any other prominent Democratic politician had spent their 9/11 doing boxing commentary, the right-wing would never let them hear the end of it. Trump, who bragged about his building becoming the tallest in Lower Manhattan once the twin towers collapsed, was able to spend his night making money off a boxing match with zero criticism from his fellow conservatives.

Scientists: Path to COVID's End Remains Uncertain
Increasingly, the perspectives from public health experts on the coronavirus pandemic is that it’s unclear when all of this will end. Over the past year and a half, epidemiologists and scientists have come up with predictions for when life can return to normal and when the disease may no longer be deadly or even disappear entirely. As those time tables largely haven’t worked out with new variants popping up and not enough people getting vaccinated, now the future is uncertain, and many health experts are doing away with making these types of predictions. That’s not to say that some people aren’t setting benchmarks. A common one is that public health restrictions can end once COVID deaths drop down to an amount we are accustomed to with the flu and other seasonal illnesses. Others predict that once most children are vaccinated, then that will mark the end of the pandemic. If there’s any sign of hope it’s that the virus is running out of people to infect, because so many Americans now have natural immunity from getting it already or from taking the vaccines. This would suggest COVID restrictions will come to end in the next couple of months, but that too could easily fall flat like so many predictions made before it.

Feds Ask Marjorie Taylor Greene to Account for $3.5 Million in Donations
Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is now being asked by federal investigators to account for $3.5 million in political donations made to her that she has not itemized. In two filings posted to the Federal Elections Commission website, there was a request made to Greene’s campaign treasurer (who is also her husband) to disclose details of contributions made during the first two quarters of 2021. The FEC has given the Greene campaign until October 12th to comply with the investigation and account for the millions in funds. Candidates don’t have to disclose the details of donations totaling under $200 but do need to provide the personal details of donors who contribute more than that amount. It’s possible that the Greene campaign was able to get to that $3.5 million mark with small donations alone, but it’s highly unlikely. Greene pretended to be about draining the swamp, but she is the swamp. She is reluctant to disclose where her campaign money comes from and to top it all off she has the audacity to have her husband serve as her treasurer. We’ll continue to follow the story to see if these funds are ever accounted for, or if not, if Marjorie Taylor Greene faces accountability for violating election laws.
