Matt Gaetz More Worried About Socialism Than Sex Trafficking Allegations
Matt Gaetz appeared on ABC 3 News in Florida for an interview. When asked if he was worried about potentially being charged over allegations of child sex trafficking, Gaetz responded by saying, “I’m not, I’m way more concerned about the socialism engulfing our nation than the scandal that seems to be engulfing the media.” He added sarcastically, “I’m glad that people are able to view these anonymous, baseless allegations against me through the lens of this extortion effort. . .” When asked about his former wingman, tax collector Joel Greenberg, Gaetz threw him under the bus and said he regrets ever being associated with him. It is suspected that Greenberg had dozens of charges against him dropped in exchange for releasing information tying the probe to Gaetz. The Florida congressman said, “when I became aware of some of Greenberg’s misdeeds, I deeply regretted my friendship with him. . .” Gaetz went on to explain that he doesn’t want his association with Greenberg to overshadow “the good work” he has done for the people of northwest Florida. It remains reasonable to suspect that Gaetz could be charged with some serious crimes, but months into this scandal, that remains to be seen.
Another Disastrous Facebook Interview
Ever since this week’s Facebook outage and whistleblower story made headline news, we’ve been hearing some extremely poor defenses from Facebook executives and staff. The social media conglomerate has had to contend with the public finding out about the company allegedly putting profits over people, knowing that their sites are often bad for mental health, and being complicit in spreading misinformation that they knew would get them the most clicks. The latest example of a poor defense of Facebook’s business practices came from its Global Head of Security, Antigone Davis. Davis said in an interview with CBS News, “it’s actually extraordinarily short-sighted” for Facebook to want to make people upset because “if they’re having a very negative experience, at some point they’re going to turn away from that negative experience.” The problem with Davis’s statement is that this isn’t what happens. Many people are in some ways addicted to these platforms and they endlessly scroll and check their notifications like clockwork. Other people may not feel well, but don’t necessarily realize it’s due to their browsing of social media. So Davis’s assertion that the allegations against Facebook being “illogical” don’t stand up even under the slightest bit of scrutiny.
From yesterday’s show:
Steve Bannon Threatens 20,000 "Shock Troops" to Take Control of Country
Steven Bannon, former Trump strategist and current Real America’s Voice talk show host, is no longer trying to conceal the fact that he wants a violent takeover of the US government. Bannon said during a recent rant that Republicans are going to win big in 2022 and 2024, but he didn’t stop there. He went on to say, “we’re not going to have 4,000 ready to go, we’re going to have 20,000 ready to go and we’re going to pick the 4,000 best and the most ready in every single department.” Bannon referred to having shock troops on stand-by and later alluded to spiritual warfare to “take control” and defeat the enemy. Comments like these are exactly the type of thing that will rile people up and get them ready to commit violence. The FBI should be investigating this call to action, especially in the wake of the January 6th Capitol riots. As long as the right continues to push this violent rhetoric, they will keep inspiring lone wolf and sometimes well-coordinated attacks to take place. Bannon’s statements are irresponsible and dangerous, but that happens to be exactly what he’s going for.
From yesterday’s show:
Trump Finances Collapsing, Falls Off List of Richest Americans
The finance publication Forbes puts out a list of the richest 400 Americans every year and for the first time in a really long time, Donald Trump is not on the list. The Forbes article says that Trump is worth an estimated $2.5 billion, which is $400 million short of where he would need to be to reach the cut off to make the list. The issue is less about Trump losing money and more about other billionaires profiting handsomely since the start of the pandemic. Properties in big cities, which make up much of Trump’s portfolio, have languished over the past two years whereas tech stocks and cryptocurrencies have done really well. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Trump was in the top 100 wealthiest Americans but his ranking has been declining steadily ever since he got into politics in 2015. The campaigns and presidency certainly did some damage to Trump’s brand, at least half the country doesn’t like him and many would avoid staying at his hotels and resorts. But Trump is still filthy rich and his finances are not in turmoil as some on the left believe. He’s just not as rich relative to the hundreds of other billionaires who have cropped up over the last few years.
