Ignorant Congresswoman Knows Nothing About Anything
Representative Lauren Boebert of Colorado is maybe the wackiest member of the 117th Congress’s freshman class. Boebert grabbed headlines for insisting on bringing her gun to the House floor and contesting the results of the 2020 election. She is currently being investigated for allegedly aiding the insurrectionists at the Capitol on January 6th. Now Boebert is arguing against raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour. She said in a tweet, "I got my start working at McDonald’s. That job doesn’t exist if the minimum wage is raised to $15 per hour. Small business would be crushed by this arbitrary mandate & big business would simply automate away jobs. Not everything that SOUNDS good is actually good in practice.”
Boebert’s argument falls apart under the slightest examination. There is a long record of raising the minimum wage in the US, both at the state level and federally. There has never proven to be any correlation between raising the minimum wage and higher unemployment. Furthermore, there are places around the country where the minimum wage is already $13, $14, or $15 an hour and yet their McDonald’s restaurants are still open. How is that possible? One of the reasons is that labor is just one portion of what goes into making a burger. Also, if the minimum wage gets raised to a living wage, consumers have the money to buy more burgers!
Clueless New Congressman IMPLODES Under Basic Questioning
Freshman Congressman Madison Cawthorn went on CNN to be interviewed by Pamela Brown over the weekend. Cawthorn was one of the dozens of Republican lawmakers to call for throwing out the votes of swing states that went to Joe Biden in order to create a pathway for Donald Trump to win reelection. Brown chose to press him on this issue and asked why he thought he had the right to disenfranchise people in states that he doesn’t even represent.
Cawthorn is a representative from North Carolina but he sounded very concerned about voter integrity in Wisconsin specifically. He argued that Wisconsin had drop boxes and early voting systems that he believed to violate its own state constitution. The CNN anchor pointed out that a Trump-appointed judge had ruled that everything Wisconsin had done was in working order. She asked Cawthorn how he could know better than the judge that reviewed the case, which of course, Cawthorn couldn’t answer. The interview wrapped up with Cawthorn being asked about the voting system in North Carolina, which he defended as being totally fine (Trump won the Tar Heel state by 74,000 votes). Finally, he conceded that the 2020 election wasn’t fraudulent which really put into question why he was working in favor to overturn the results all along.
From over the weekend:
Fox News Already Warning of Biden Concentration Camps
Fox News host Sean Hannity is taking on his old form of being part of the opposition. Hannity wasted no time after Joe Biden got sworn in last week as the 46th president. He warned that under a Biden administration conservatives are going to become “deprogrammed” or put into “reeducation camps.” No serious leftist has called for putting Trump supporters into concentration camps. The allegation is as crazy as the Obamacare “death panels” and the countless fake scandals Hannity was at the forefront of pushing just over four years ago. This is just the start of Biden’s four years and without skipping a beat, the right-wing media sphere has reverted back to its old ways.
