Trump lawyer makes devastating mistake during Newsmax interview
In a recent Newsmax appearance, former President Trump's lawyer, Alina Habba, stated that Trump "isn't going to do what's popular and he's not going to do what's right." Habba issued a swift retraction of this statement, raising questions about Trump's decision-making. Clearly, there are tensions between acting based on popularity and what is politically advantageous, with Trump often leaning towards the latter. The irony of Habba's assertion, that Trump doesn't follow popularity, is that Trump refused to accept the 2020 election results, which is essentially a popularity contest. Oftentimes, Trump's actions neither align with popularity nor what's right, such as his new policy position supporting executing drug dealers. As it stands now, Habba is one of Trump’s lucky lawyers, since she hasn’t faced the onslaught of legal issues that his other attorneys have faced in recent months. Instead, she only has to concern herself with delivering an inartful defense of her client on the Newsmax airwaves.
Tucker Carlson says Trump will soon be assassinated
Former Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson recently made a controversial assertion that Donald Trump is on a path toward assassination, citing widespread public antipathy and political opposition. However, Carlson's claim is challenged by the notion that Trump's legal troubles are rooted in his actions rather than merely his electoral opinions, with multiple felony counts across various indictments potentially resulting in lengthy prison sentences. Maybe Carlson said this because he perceives Trump as more valuable as a martyr to the cause, given that martyrs often become symbols of resistance and can galvanize supporters while evading everyday controversies. This notion suggests that Tucker Carlson and others in the right-wing movement might be strategically considering the potential benefits of Trump's martyrdom, such as influencing the selection of his successor or shaping the movement's future course. Nevertheless, the likelihood of an actual assassination plot against Trump remains low.

Verdict is in: Trump skipping debate basically fine for him
Donald Trump appears to be holding strong with 54% of the vote in the Republican primary, despite a slight dip in support among Republicans following his decision to skip the first debate. However, it's worth noting that these numbers may not yet represent the broader electorate, as some voters typically start paying attention later in the election cycle. Ron DeSantis, who was expected to perform well in the debate, has not seen a significant boost in his polling and has even lost a point since the debate. Vivek Ramaswamy, who had a brief surge in support post-debate, now faces relatively unremarkable polling numbers. Notably, Nikki Haley, who had been polling at 2-3%, made an impact during the debate and has risen to 5%, potentially positioning herself as a legitimate contender in the race. While Donald Trump's decision to skip the debate hasn't backfired on him so far, the dynamics within the Republican primary are evolving, and the race remains fluid. It is possible that Trump skipping future debates won’t be so benign as voters start to pay more attention to the race.

Fox News host realizes Cornel West might help Trump win
Laura Ingraham recently had Cornel West on her Fox News program to discuss his Green Party presidential candidacy, acknowledging the possibility that his limited ballot access and third-party status could inadvertently aid Donald Trump's reelection. A poll shows that West's entry into the race decreases both Trump and Biden's support. Being on the left, Cornel is much more likely to take away would-be-Biden votes than would-be-Trump ones. In the interview, West defended his decision, arguing that no party is entitled to votes and that he aims to appeal to non-voters, independents, and those disillusioned with the major parties. While West absolutely has the right to run, the best outcome he can hope for is to influence the election by diverting votes from the Democratic candidate. The risks of West’s candidacy likely will outweigh the benefits of promoting a left-wing agenda. Since we don’t have ranked-choice voting for presidential elections, West in the race could inadvertently lead to four years of a right-wing authoritarian in the Oval Office.
