Trump Rally Devolves Into Historic Embarrassment
Donald Trump held an ill-advised campaign rally over the weekend in Tulsa, Oklahoma and it was an absolute failure. The Trump campaign expected up to a million people to attend but only around 6,000 showed up. This made the President absolutely furious and had him yelling at advisers backstage. During the speech, Trump bragged about how he could drink water out of a glass with one hand, admitted he tried to limit coronavirus testing and called COVID-19 “kung flu.”
There are quite a few takeaways from this event: first off, it’s great to see that the arena was not filled to capacity because that would likely cause a wave of new cases in Oklahoma and the surrounding states. Secondly, the support for Donald Trump might have trailed off a bit in light of recent events. Finally, it’s clear that Trump lacks a clear campaign message for 2020. There was very little policy discussion during Saturday’s rally and even Trump himself can’t make the case right now for why he deserves a second term.
Fox Host HUMILIATES Trump Tool Over Rally Crowd
Trump campaign adviser Mercedes Schlapp went on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace and could not defend the failure that was Trump’s rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma. When Wallace pressed Schlapp on the dismal crowd size, Schalpp argued that millions watched the speech online and that people were deterred from going to the rally because of anti-Trump protesters. Of course, this is a total moving of the goalposts and there is no evidence that protesters scared away 100,000+ Trumpists who otherwise would have gone.
This gets us back to an important reminder: rally crowds don't win elections. Whether Trump had 620 or 6,200 or 62,000 or 620,000 people show up at his rally, it would not be demonstrative of if he’s winning or losing the election. If rally crowds won elections, Bernie Sanders would currently be the Democratic nominee. There's one crowd that matters, and it's how many people vote in November.
From over the weekend:
Caller: We've Tried Police "Reform." It Failed
A caller on last Friday’s show discussed how activists have already tried to create police reform and it has never worked. His argument is that taking the traditional approach of voting and using the legislative process has failed and that a ballot initiative might be the way to go. The question is, have we really exhausted all other options?
