Trump's Last Rally Ever Goes HORRIBLY WRONG
Last night, Donald Trump gave what may be his last rally as the sitting President of the United States. The event took place in Georgia, on the eve of the two runoff elections that will determine control of the US Senate. Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler was in attendance and spoke for a few minutes at the rally, but her colleague David Perdue couldn’t make it because he was in isolation following exposure to COVID-19. Trump ranted for ninety minutes, yet barely spoke about the two Senate candidates. He rambled instead about himself and the 2020 presidential race for nearly the entire time.
Trump opened up the rally by claiming he actually won the state of Georgia. He theorized that on Wednesday, when the Electoral College votes get counted by Congress, Vice President Mike Pence will be able to “come through for us.” Pence’s role Wednesday will be completely procedural and he won’t have the authority to do what Trump wants him to do. The rally was a success in getting diehard Trump supporters to nod along about the presidential race being rigged, but it’s hard to imagine people leaving the rally inspired to vote for Loeffler and Perdue. Today is Election Day in Georgia and we’ll be anxiously awaiting the results.
Fox Host SHUTS DOWN Lunatic Pro-Trump Republican
One of the most prominent Republican lawmakers who plans to contest the electoral vote count tomorrow is Missouri Senator Josh Hawley. He went on Fox News yesterday to explain why he thinks Congress should disregard the will of the people and launch a voter fraud commission that will ultimately result in Trump winning a second term. Unfortunately for Hawley, Fox News host Brett Baier wasn’t having any of it and he pushed back at the senator’s claims every step of the way.
The worst moment in the exchange for Hawley was when he brought up a statute from the 19th century that he thought would prove made contesting the vote count appropriate. Baier knew exactly what Hawley was referring to — the 1876 race between Rutherford Hayes and Samuel Tilden — and aptly pointed out why it would not apply. In that election, there were several states that hadn’t certified the results. But this time, all fifty states have certified their elections (despite Republican efforts to block certification in the swing states that went to Biden). So Hawley’s comparison proved not to hold up and he was left making an extremely uncomfortable face like he just sucked on a lemon.
From yesterday’s show:
Trump's Bizarre, Deranged End of Year Speech
Donald Trump released a bizarre end-of-year speech on New Year’s Eve. Throughout the five-minute address, Trump gave an ahistorical and lie-riddled account of his administration’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic. He made statements like “we were told it would be impossible to deliver a vaccine by the end of year,” to make it seem like only Trump would be capable of getting vaccines ready by now. He claimed the US was the envy of the world on coronavirus, even though we are by far the country with the most infections and deaths. Trump couldn’t help himself from claiming that “we built the wall,” which came nowhere near getting completed. This sounds like someone who is still campaigning, or at least desperate to control the narrative since he won’t be president in just a few weeks.
