Historic Disgrace: Trump Impeached AGAIN
Yesterday, Donald Trump became the first president in American history to be impeached twice. A majority of the House decided to charge Trump for “incitement of insurrection,” triggering a trial in the Senate that is expected to begin in the coming weeks. The final vote in the House was 232 to 197, with ten Republicans breaking ranks to support the measure. They are Representatives Katko, Cheney, Kinzinger, Upton, Beutler, Newhouse, Meijer, Gonzalez, Rice, and Valadao. These Republicans did the right thing by putting their country before their party, but it’s perhaps even more telling that 197 Republicans chose to defend the president after he put all of their lives at risk last week at the Capitol.
At this point, Donald Trump’s record is truly that of a failed president. He lost the popular vote twice — the first president to do that in well over one hundred years. He got impeached by the House twice, becoming the first federal officeholder in history to do that. Trump lost the House for Republicans in 2018 and the Senate for Republicans in 2020. He also was defeated soundly in his reelection effort by Joe Biden, with a record 81 million people turning out to vote him out of office. After he undermined the electoral process and incited violence, Trump lost business contracts and got banned from social media sites, including his precious Twitter. For a president who said we would get tired of all of the winning, he must be exhausted by all of the losing.
Bizarre Final Trump Speech a Desperate Plea for Mercy
Donald Trump addressed the nation yesterday from the Oval Office. He denounced violence and condemned the “calamity at the Capitol” last week. When it mattered most during the attack, Trump stayed silent and broke his oath of office to protect the country against “enemies foreign and domestic.” Now that Trump has been impeached for a second time by the House of Representatives and could conceivably be convicted by the Senate and/or face actual criminal prosecution for it, he’s all of a sudden remorseful. Trump spent the final minutes of the speech complaining about big tech censorship, in what seemed to be a desperate attempt to get his Twitter account reinstated.
This speech was too little too late and it looked more like a hostage video than a presidential address. Trump took no personal responsibility for what happened. He didn’t admit that he was the one who radicalized his supporters by falsely claiming the 2020 election was rigged. He didn’t express regret for telling his supporters to “fight” and to march down to the Capitol, nor did he express regret for not telling his supporters to back off or failing to send in the military. The goal of this speech was to provide Republican senators with enough cover so that they can vote to acquit him during the Senate trial without facing significant backlash from the American people.
From yesterday’s show:
Trump Warned Pence About Being a "Pussy"
On the morning of January 6th, Donald Trump was working as hard as he possibly could to convince Mike Pence to throw out electoral votes during the joint session of Congress. Pence refused, telling the president he doesn’t have the constitutional authority to do that. Trump furious with Pence, barked “you can either be a patriot or a pussy.” Pence ignored Trump and headed to the Capitol, where he intended to count the electoral votes as mandated by the Constitution. Of course, this process was temporarily disrupted when a Trump riot took over the Capitol. Pence, already furious with Trump, became even more enraged when the president didn’t reach out to help him during the attack.
