Trump loses BILLIONS as Truth Social stock nosedive
The introduction of Truth Social to the NASDAQ under the ticker DJT generated significant hype, leading to an inflated valuation of around $11 billion. However, the stock price quickly plummeted from a peak of $74 to $46 per share in just a few trading days, resulting in substantial losses for investors, including former President Donald Trump, who owns 60% of the shares. Trump expressed frustration over the stock decline on Truth Social, attributing it to the disinformation spread by his political opponents. The company's actual value doesn't justify its stock valuation, indicating it's an over-hyped meme stock. Possible reasons for the decline include short selling and panic selling by Trump supporters. In a related story, Trump filed a lawsuit against former associates Wesley Moss and Andrew Litinsky, accusing them of mismanaging Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) and seeking to seize their stake in the company. This development contrasts with Trump's claim of hiring the best people
Trump suffers 3 straight legal defeats: Criminal trials starting soon
Former President Donald Trump faced three consecutive legal defeats this week regarding his criminal trials. In the New York hush money trial, Judge Juan Merchan dismissed Trump's motion to delay the trial, rejecting claims of presidential immunity. The trial, focusing on hush money payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign, is set to commence on April 15th. In the Georgia election interference case, Judge Scott McAfee denied Trump's attempt to dismiss the indictment, emphasizing that political speech does not shield criminal activity. The case revolves around allegations of interference in Georgia's 2020 election results, with prosecutors aiming to start the trial in August. Additionally, in the classified documents case, U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon rejected Trump's plea to dismiss the charges, ruling that the documents were not protected under the Presidential Records Act. Despite Trump's efforts to influence the proceedings, these defeats signal significant legal challenges ahead as the trials approach.
From earlier this week:
Republican suggests "nuking" Gaza
Michigan Congressman Tim Walberg suggested using nuclear weapons as a solution for the situation in Gaza during a discussion resembling a town hall event. Walberg was recorded saying the United States “shouldn’t be spending a dime on humanitarian aid” and that “it should be like Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Get it over quick.” This suggestion, written off by Walbeg's office as a "metaphor to support Israel’s swift elimination of Hamas," rightfully sparked controversy and backlash. It highlights the differing approaches between the Biden administration and the MAGA stances on Israel and Gaza.
From earlier this week:
The real problem isn't Trump, it's Trump voters
So much of the Donald Trump problem in the United States is not about Trump as an individual, but rather the 74 million Americans who supported him. The crux lies in societal and political conditions that allowed Trump's rise and potential return, indicating a deeper American problem. This isn't an attack on individuals but an acknowledgment of systemic issues like economic inequality, racial injustice, and political distrust. While some Trump supporters are motivated by genuine economic concerns, their grievances are exploited and weaponized by Trump's promises. Trump's purported anti-establishment stance disguises his lifelong association with elites, exploiting an echo chamber of misinformation and historical prejudices. Without addressing the vulnerable demographic susceptible to populist demagogues, the problem persists beyond Trump and reaches a sizable chunk of the American populace.
