Anti-Vaccine Mob Starts Brawl, Tries to Storm Building
Yet another brawl broke out at an anti-vax protest, this time outside the offices of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency in London, UK. The situation escalated when the police started pushing a mob away from the building which houses the British equivalent of the Food and Drug Administration. This caused the protesters to become increasingly dangerous, leading to police taking out batons and striking back at the rioters, which protesters later used to their advantage by saying the police were arbitrarily targeting them. At least four police officers were hurt in the attacks and surely some protesters were as well. These demonstrations have popped up in response to a new rule that home care workers in England will have to be vaccinated by October and British nightclubs and other venues with large crowds will require patrons to show full proof of vaccination by the end of September. This is all happening at a time when COVID cases and deaths have spiked sharply in the UK. With people like these protesters remaining defiant about not getting their shots, the future of the pandemic remains uncertain as it increases the likelihood that more variants could come about in the next few months.
BREAKING: Trump Running 2024, Say Advisor & Congressman
Two of Donald Trump confidants, former strategist Jason Miller and Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan, have revealed that the ex-president will almost certainly be running again in 2024. Miller went on Cheddar News and said the odds of Trump running again in the next election cycle are “somewhere between 99 and 100%.” Jordan, when asked if he thought Trump was going to run for president again, said “I know so. Yeah, I talked to him yesterday. He's about ready to announce after all of this craziness in Afghanistan.” They could both be wrong or they could both be lying because maybe they've decided it's good strategy to claim Trump is planning to run even if he really isn't. Since the Republican Party in 2021 is still centered around Trumpism, people like Miller and Jordan still depend on their party leader to further their own careers and ambitions. But it certainly does make sense for Trump to be considering a run, since he wants to avenge his 2020 loss and because head-to-head polling between him and Joe Biden has been favorable to Trump, with Biden’s approval rating slipping. The first step in assessing whether Trump can win in 2024 is to see how well Trumpist candidates perform in the 2022 midterms and those races have to remain the primary focus for Democrats in the short term.
From over the weekend:
Republicans Are Absolutely Impeaching Biden if They Take the House
Last week, a caller asked if the House of Representatives will move to impeach Joe Biden if Republicans take back control of the lower chamber in 2022. The sad truth is that they probably will, even though Biden hasn’t done anything worthy of impeachment and chances are he won’t over the next few years. The GOP will view impeaching Biden as part of a tit for tat, as House Democrats impeached Donald Trump twice — once for corruption with Ukraine and once for inciting an insurrection. Republicans will assess impeaching Biden as a way to get back at Democrats and an excellent way to play to their radical base of supporters. Luckily, there would be no chance of Biden actually getting removed from office, since two-thirds of the Senate will not vote to convict him. Some of these Republicans also want to impeach Kamala Harris for reasons they haven’t come up with yet and representatives like Lauren Boebert want to find a way to kick out Nancy Pelosi from office as well. The best way to ensure that Biden isn’t impeached over a nonsensical reason in 2023 or 2024 is for Democrats to win enough seats in the House in 2022, so that Republicans are unable to take back control.
From over the weekend:
Paul Ryan Admits that Donald Trump Obviously Lost
Former House Speaker Paul Ryan was never the biggest fan of Donald Trump, even though he put up with him for the two years that they served together to pass legislation like tax cuts for the rich. Now, the former GOP vice presidential nominee is flat out saying that Trump lost the 2020 election, which is something that even mainstream Republicans are still cautious about to admit. Ryan sat down for an interview with a local Wisconsin news station and told reporter Kent Wainscott “it was not rigged. It was not stolen. Donald Trump lost the election. Joe Biden won the election. It's really clear.” Ryan went on to say, “he exhausted his cases. He exhausted the court challenges. None of them went his way, so he legitimately lost. Is there mischief, organized shenanigans in elections? Sure. Is there fraud? Yes. Was it organized to the extent that it would have swung the Electoral College and the presidential election? Absolutely not.” Ryan has not stated whether or not he plans on returning to politics anytime soon but some have mentioned him as a possible 2024 contender. At this point, it’s obvious that Ryan has chosen his path within the Republican Party and it’s in the anti-Trump wing that makes up only a fraction of today’s American right wing.
