Fox Thinks Violent Crime is Up Because of Smoking Weed
Fox News is still fearmongering about cannabis in the year 2021. The hosts of Fox & Friends, and particularly Steve Doocy, made the argument that crime is surging in cities across America because of “pot usage.” To make his point, Doocy played a clip of Washington DC Police Chief Robert Contee saying that black market marijuana transactions have an effect on crime. Contee explained, “when you have something where people get high reward — they can make a lot of money by selling illegal marijuana, and the risk is low . . . that creates a very very very very very bad situation . . . because those individuals get robbed, those individuals get shot at, those individuals get involved in disputes, all across our city.” When the camera cut back to Doocy, he concluded that it’s too late for some of these cities to “put the toothpaste back in the tube” because so many of them have already legalized marijuana.
What the morning Fox hosts failed to point out was that, what the DC police chief was referring to was the black market transactions of cannabis and not the actual use of the drug. Making marijuana fully illegal again would exacerbate the very problems they claim to be trying to fight against, as there would be even more incentive for people to turn to the black market. There is no evidence that cannabis use itself is contributing to worsening violent crime rates. The truth is that marijuana use is not associated with enhanced aggression, whereas the more common and “normalized” drug alcohol is. A study called “subjective aggression during alcohol and cannabis intoxication before and after aggression exposure” found that “cannabis decreased the subjective aggression following aggression exposure,” whereas alcohol was found to raise aggression levels. Once again, Fox News managed to take something completely out of context and they were dead wrong on the facts, but that won’t matter to their loyal audience who will never hear the other side of the story.
Trump Spokeswoman: We Found 275,000 "Potentially" Fraudulent Ballots!
Donald Trump hired a new spokesperson a few months ago named Liz Harrington and she is perhaps the nuttiest one yet. She went on Fox News yesterday to talk about the 2020 election “audit” in Arizona, which some Republicans claim will turn the tide in proving voter fraud and reinstating Trump as president. Harrington said, “if you look at the preliminary findings from the independent audit, already, we have 275,000 potential fraudulent ballots.” There are so many caveats and false statements in this one sentence it’s almost difficult to believe she is saying it all on air. First, Harrington says “preliminary findings,” which is meaningless, before calling the charade by Republicans nearly nine months after an election an “independent audit.” Then she wraps it up by saying there are “potential fraudulent ballots” which again shows that they have so far proved nothing. Trump supporters are really holding out hope that this “audit” in Arizona will vindicate them, but they just can’t seem to come up with anything. Joe Biden won the Grand Canyon State by about 10,000 votes (0.3%) and there’s nothing Republicans can do at this late stage to change that.
From yesterday’s show:
Tucker Carlson CONFRONTED in Store as "Worst Human Being"
Tucker Carlson was confronted at a fishing shop in Montana over the weekend and the encounter was caught on video. A man named Dan Bailey walked up to Carlson and said “dude, you are the worst human being known to mankind. I want you to know that.” When Tucker saw that the confrontation was being recorded, he tried to laugh it off and walked away. The exchange never got physical, aside from some poking on the chest, which it appears Carlson initiated. Some on the right went hysterical after the incident went viral, including Dinesh D’Souza who said that Bailey should be arrested for doing this to Tucker. Not only is it not a crime what Dan Bailey did, this is exactly what Carlson has encouraged his audience to do to people in the past. Just a few months ago, Tucker told his viewers to harass the parents of kids wearing masks on the playground. If that advice is supposed to apply to total strangers and non-public figures, surely it’s okay for Fox celebrity Tucker Carlson to be getting a taste of his own medicine.
