Tucker Hosts Gingrich: Transgender Will Dominate Christian and Jewish
Republicans are becoming more and more unhinged with their characterizations of the Biden presidency. This week, right-wing propagandist Tucker Carlson hosted former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on his Fox News program. Carlson opened up the exchange with a dishonest question: “Why did Biden pick the most divisive policies up front?” At this point, the interview was already off to a bad start because Biden chose to tackle coronavirus stimulus and vaccine distribution in his first one hundred days — topics that were bipartisan under former President Trump. But Gingrich argued that Biden is being divisive and partisan because Democrats expect to lose in the midterms. Gingrich argued they’re “ramming through everything they can get done before they lose in 2022. So this is kind of a sprint to radicalism.”
Tucker followed up by arguing that “all of the things that [Democrats] want hurt the country in measurable ways.” Newt agreed and added, “if there’s a problem with COVID in Texas, it’s not Governor Abbott it’s Biden’s illegals.” The exchange wrapped up with the former House Speaker making the argument that the America that Joe Biden and Democrats want is anti-white and anti-Asian. He followed up by saying the left wants a country in which “transgender dominates Christianity and Judaism.” So, Gingrich really managed to say it all in this interview without really making much sense. If anything got through to Tucker’s audience, it would be the dog whistles and bigotry that is standard practice on the Fox network.
Barely Coherent TX Republicans Blame Immigrants & Biden for COVID
Texas earlier this week made the decision to cancel all coronavirus guidelines including lifting the mask mandate. However, the state’s Republican leadership is prepared with excuses in the event that cases, hospitalizations, and deaths begin to spike in the Lone Star State. In fact, the governor and lieutenant governor are already blaming President Biden and undocumented immigrants for COVID cases. All throughout Donald Trump’s presidency, Republicans would say that border crossings were at record lows. Now, that it’s no longer convenient for them to say that because a Democrat is in the White House, these Republicans have shifted to a more suitable explanation.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott went on Fox News this week and claimed that the “Biden administration was spreading COVID in south Texas yesterday, because of they’re lack of constraint of testing and quarantining people who had come across the border illegally.” The lieutenant governor of Texas, Dan Patrick, also got in on the action. He criticized the president for his “Neanderthal thinking of allowing people to cross the border illegally with COVID.” To add some facts to this, Biden has not been president for long enough to have a significant effect on immigration policy or even the natural trajectory of the virus. The coronavirus case rate in Mexico is many times lower than in the United States. And finally, even if what Abbott and Patrick were saying was true, why would that justify opening up the state and ending the mask mandate? Wouldn’t they want to protect Texans from the immigrants supposedly bringing the virus? Just like how they blamed the non-existent Green New Deal for the energy disaster last month, blaming undocumented immigrants and Joe Biden for COVID cases makes zero sense.
From yesterday’s show:
BREAKING: House Passes HR1, MASSIVE Voting Rights Bill
The House of Representatives, thanks to Democrats, has passed the massive voting rights and anti-corruption bill known as HR1. This is an extensive 800-page bill that includes things like a national system for voter registration and guaranteeing mechanisms in all states to do early voting and vote-by-mail for federal elections. The bill would ban voter role purges and ban the use of non-forwardable mail as a way to remove voters from the roles. Every one of these elements go after techniques used by the right to suppress the vote. In addition, HR1 would expand public financing of elections, include a transparency requirements for political advertising, set up commissions to end partisan gerrymandering, and so much more. The next challenge on this will be getting the legislation to pass the Senate, where Democrats cannot afford to lose even one centrist vote.
