Yes, Democrats CAN WIN the Senate
Democrats have a real shot at taking the Senate majority by winning the two runoff elections in Georgia on January 5th. Republican incumbent David Perdue is seeking reelection against Democratic challenger Jon Ossoff. Simultaneously, there is a race between Republican incumbent Kelly Loeffler against Democratic challenger Raphael Warnock. Both of these races will be difficult to win but it is doable, as shown by Joe Biden’s victory there earlier this month. Polling for both the Perdue vs. Ossoff and Loeffler vs. Warnock races show both contests as toss-ups. If Ossoff and Warnock can both win, Democrats will have fifty seats in the US Senate. In the case of a fifty-fifty tie, Vice President Kamala Harris will get to step in and vote as the tie-breaker.
There are so many different ways to get involved in these Georgia races. For those who don’t live in the state, you can donate or phone bank. For those who do live in Georgia, pandemic-safe door-knocking is being organized in the state. Voter registration drives led by Stacey Abrams and others could again be the difference maker like they were on November 3rd. There’s a chance Republican voters will feel deflated with Trump having lost reelection and being told their votes don’t matter because of “voter fraud.” There is a world of difference between winning these two seats and letting Mitch McConnell rule the upper house for another two years. Let’s win these races and take back control of the US Senate.
Donald Trump Gives Delusional 64-Second Press Conference
Donald Trump made a rare public appearance yesterday to hold a 64-second press conference in the White House briefing room. Trump congratulated members of his administration and the entire American public for the Dow Jones Industrial Average reaching a record 30,000 points. Having lost the election, the outgoing president is desperate to attach himself to anything resembling a success. Trump referred to 30,000 as a “sacred number” in a truly strange moment. He referred to “medical advancements like we’ve never seen before” and then walked off without taking questions. Trump hasn’t taken any questions from the media since Election Day.
Monday’s stock market performance may relate to the General Services Administration approving to recognize Joe Biden as the apparent winner of the 2020 election and going forward with the transition. The theories that the market would tank if Biden got elected president were totally untrue. Ironically, by Trump’s logic, the Dow hitting 30,000 is a credit to Biden, not to him. That’s because Trump took credit for the stock market performance during his presidential transition four years ago. We will wait and see if the soon-to-be-former president ever speaks to the press again.
From yesterday’s show:
SHOCK: 21 Anti-Trump Republican Senators
There is a breaking story from investigative reporter Carl Bernstein about twenty-one Republican senators who have privately said disparaging things about Donald Trump. Bernstein tweeted that the list includes “Portman, Alexander, Sasse, Blunt, Collins, Murkowski, Cornyn, Thune, Romney, Braun, Young, Tim Scott, Rick Scott, Rubio, Grassley, Burr, Toomey, McSally, Moran, Roberts, [and] Shelby.” Some on the list, like Ben Sasse and Mitt Romney, have criticized Trump in public, but most on the list have not. The Republicans who stayed silent for four years don’t deserve any credit now just because they privately opposed him. This is what we call “profiles in cowardice.”
