Banned Trump Writing Out Insults, Asking Aides to Tweet Them
Donald Trump has been spending his time post-presidency the same way he did during his presidency, which is by coming up with insults to be used on social media. The only difference is, since Trump has been banned by Twitter and other platforms, he is now coming up with tweets that can be sent out by his aides on their accounts. When Trump tried to tweet using the POTUS account after January 6th, Twitter stepped in the way and took his posts down. The question now is whether they will keep doing that if Trump is so obviously getting his message out through Stephen Miller, Jared Kushner, or whoever else.
According to the Daily Beast, Trump saw the vote to reelect Representative Liz Cheney to her leadership position as key in figuring out whether he has a future in the Republican Party. Cheney was one of the ten Republicans in the House who voted with the Democrats to impeach Trump after the Capitol insurrection. That vote took place Wednesday and it was an ugly outcome for Donald Trump. In a secret ballot, GOP members voted overwhelmingly, 145-61, to reinstate Cheney to her leadership position. This should come as yet another gut punch to the twice-impeached one-term ex-president.
Republican Mitt Romney Proposes $3000 Per Child COVID Relief
Utah Republican Senator Mitt Romney has a proposal to provide $3,000 or more per child to millions of American families. The plan would tag along with the broader coronavirus stimulus efforts as well as the push to expand child benefits. Under the plan, families with children under 6 would get $4,200 in yearly payments per child. Families with children 6 to 17 would get $3,000 in yearly payments per child. This is more than what Democrats have proposed in the coronavirus stimulus package currently making its way through Congress. Romney has opposed the current $1.9 trillion deal overall, but it’s possible that boosted child benefits could be passed as a separate bill.
Working and middle class families need the support and it’s why plans like Romney’s need to be taken seriously. It’s even possible to view the issue from a right-wing perspective. There’s often a push by conservatives to want to go back to the days of single-income households where the women stay home to raise kids. Providing payments to families with children would to some extent encourage that behavior. While progressives don’t view the issue in that way, if it leads to a bipartisan effort to provide expanded child benefits, this is still a favorable outcome. There is no sign yet of how other Republicans feel about the proposal. Regardless, it should have no issues passing if Joe Biden and the Democrats want to make it a priority.
From yesterday’s show:
"Cancel Culture" is the New "War on Christmas," Republicans Desperate
“Cancel culture” is the new “war on Christmas” for Fox News and other right-wing media outlets. Conservatives complaining on national TV about how they are being censored has become standard fare. The latest GOP lawmaker to use this tactic is Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan who went on Fox News to express his displeasure with Marjorie Taylor Greene being stripped of her committee assignments. Jordan said, “who’s next? I mean look, think of the cancel culture.” He went on to complain about Democrats supposedly taking away the “first amendment free speech rights” of conservatives. Jordan has added himself to a long list of Republicans who seem to think free speech means freedom from repercussions.
