Trump Humiliated in First Post-Presidency Interview
Donald Trump did a round of television interviews for the first time in his post-presidential life. Trump did the right-wing news trifecta, going on Fox News, Newsmax, and OAN throughout the course of the day. The main reason for the appearances was to pay tribute to right-wing talk radio personality Rush Limbaugh, who died yesterday at the age of 70. Trump, on brand, managed to eulogize Rush in a way that made it all about himself. He bragged about the time he gave Limbaugh the Presidential Medal of Freedom during the State of the Union. Trump explained how Rush was supposedly deeply upset over the 2020 election being “stolen” from him. The 45th president spoke about his rounds of golf with Rush, which there must have been quite a few of, given the amount of time Trump spent on the golf course as president.
Trump’s interview with Newsmax’s Greg Kelly managed to go beyond Rush Limbaugh’s passing and the news of the day. The ex-president was asked if he’ll be running for president again in 2024, to which he didn’t give a straight answer but instead talked about his approval numbers being high (which they’re not). Trump then criticized Twitter for being boring now that he has been booted off the platform. He also went after Joe Biden and recent comments made by the Biden team about poor vaccine rollout during the previous administration. While Trump managed to stay out of the spotlight during the impeachment process, this may be an indication that he’s ready to stage a political comeback.
Rush Limbaugh Dead at 70
Right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh has died at the age of 70 after a year-long battle with lung cancer. Conservatives have been eulogizing Limbaugh as a talented broadcast personality and as a hero in their movement. While it’s not in good spirit to root for or celebrate anyone’s death, no tears will be shed on the left over the passing of one of the most dangerous right-wing ideologues. The damage Limbaugh has done to the American psyche is incalculable and it helped pave the way for a Donald Trump presidency. This is someone who used to have a segment on his show celebrating and making fun of people dying of HIV/AIDS. He called women’s rights activist Sandra Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute” for trying to get health insurance companies to cover the cost of contraceptives. Rush aired a parody song about former President Obama called “Barack, the Magic Negro.” It’s fair to say that Rush has coarsened the discourse and has made American society worse off.
From yesterday’s show:
Ted Cruz a Disgusting Hypocrite AGAIN on Texas Storm
Texas Senator Ted Cruz has been handling the snowstorms and power outages in his state as badly as anyone could. Cruz was sighted on a flight to Cancun over night, getting out of dodge rather than trying to help his constituents get the lights back on. He has however, reached out to the Biden administration to get federal aid money for his state. Cruz tweeted, "Today Senator @JohnCornyn & I sent a letter to President Biden urging for @GovAbbott’s emergency federal disaster declaration request to be approved amid severe winter storms across the State of Texas." While it’s perfectly legitimate and reasonable for states to request federal assistance during natural disasters, Cruz has been in the habit of trying to block aid from going to different parts of the country for years, including blocking Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in 2013.
