Trump Humiliated, Says "Massive Dumps" Cost Him Election
Outgoing President Donald Trump is blaming “massive dumps” on his election loss earlier this month. Trump went on Maria Bartiromo’s Fox Business show in what was his first interview since Election Day. Trump was allowed to ramble on uninterrupted for multiple minutes at a time. Bartiromo pretended to act shocked and horrified by the allegations Trump was making as if she’s really concerned over the integrity of the vote. Trump said that people were calling him on election night to congratulate him on having won the election, although anyone familiar with the red mirage scenario knew that Biden would catch up once the mail-in counts came in. In maybe the most meme-able moment, Trump said, “then they did dumps, they call them dumps, big massive dumps in Michigan and Pennsylvania and all over.”
Trump is disputing the popular vote totals too even though it’s not relevant in deciding who takes the White House in January. This should come as no surprise, since Trump claimed voter fraud in 2016 was the reason he lost the popular vote by three million. This time, he lost it by over six million. Eventually, Trump runs out of steam and the interview ends with Trump saying his loss was "statistically impossible." Bartiromo responds by saying "it's all quite extraordinary, Mr. President." Trump is likely to keep repeating these unfounded claims for the rest of his life and his followers will likely believe them for the rest of theirs.
Fox News No Longer Crazy Enough for Fox Viewers
Fox News has radicalized its viewership so much over the years that they are beginning to turn on Fox News for not being radical enough. Some Fox anchors have been flat-out saying Joe Biden won the election, whereas others have been pushing the voter fraud narrative. There’s a new piece out by Molly Jong-Fast in the Daily Beast which argues that the Fox News outrage machine has ironically worked against them. The argument is that Fox told its viewers that other media outlets can’t be trusted, along with science, academia, and reality itself. This created a problem where on election night, “when Fox anchors suddenly wanted to play things straight, it created a phenomenon whereby Fox News was unable to keep up with the conservative outrage generated by Fox News.”
It’s unclear how much longer the Fox opinion anchors will keep the voter fraud narrative going and indeed some are giving up on it. While Chris Wallace and Brett Baier sound sensible, Maria Bartiromo in her interview with Trump yesterday sounded like a news anchor for North Korean state TV. There is probably a line for Fox News that they won’t cross. They won’t be entertaining the most insane QAnon conspiracy theories, for example. But the right-wing base that they’ve cropped up over decades will be turning to other media organizations to find it. We’ll have to wait and see if channels like Newsmax and OANN can ever reach the viewership that Fox has.
From last week:
Tucker Carlson Sets Record for Lies in 80 Seconds
Tucker Carlson may have set a record for lies told in an 80-second time period on his Fox News show last week. Carlson tried to walk the tight rope between accepting the reality that Joe Biden won the election, while playacting to his Trump-supporting audience that the election was rigged. He said during his monologue that other countries don’t use electronic voting systems, which isn’t true. Carlson said mail-in voting was the reason some races in New York haven’t been decided yet while on a rant about electronic voting, even though those are different topics. He then moved on, arguing that the American people voted for Joe Biden without really knowing who he is and what he stands for. Maybe Tucker’s audience would know more about Biden if he spent the last month reported on something other than bogus voter fraud claims and Hunter Biden’s “laptop from hell.”
