Trump New Year's Eve party goes horribly wrong, visibly shaking
At Donald Trump's New Year's Eve party, things took a bizarre turn as he appeared visibly uncomfortable and unenthusiastic. The event featured a cover singer performing "Proud to Be an American," Trump's rally entrance song, while Trump stood swaying back and forth, resembling an impatient toddler. As the countdown to 2024 unfolded, Trump exhibited a complete lack of enthusiasm, possibly attributed to the legal challenges he faces over the coming months. Trump’s future remains uncertain, facing the possibility of returning as president-elect, dealing with potential life imprisonment, or maybe even both. This serves as an important reminder for viewers to stay tuned for the latest updates on the Republican primary, general election matchup, Trump’s four criminal trials, and much more in the new year.
Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane CRUSHES Bill Maher antivax nonsense
In a recent Club Random podcast episode, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane engaged in a nuanced conversation with Bill Maher, addressing various topics such as COVID and vaccines. Maher's inclination to host guests with diverse opinions led to an exchange where MacFarlane calmly dismantled Maher’s misconceptions. The discussion covered natural immunity, vaccine necessity, and the evolving scientific understanding of the pandemic. MacFarlane countered Maher's skepticism towards vaccine mandates, emphasizing the initial urgency during the pandemic's critical phase. While highlighting Maher's sometimes extreme views on medical matters, MacFarlane demonstrated a balanced perspective, showcasing the benefits of having discussions with people who hold different perspectives. The conversation showcased MacFarlane's ability to articulate evidence-based arguments and navigate the complexities of the ongoing public health debate with clarity and reason.
From over the weekend:
Nikki Haley won't reject being Trump's VP
Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley fails to provide a clear answer when asked if she would categorically reject being Trump's vice president. Despite many chances to redeem herself, Haley evades a direct response to the VP question. Critics argue that her reluctance to unequivocally deny the possibility suggests a potential willingness to accept the role. Previously seen as an unlikely choice for Trump's running mate, recent dynamics, including strained relations between Trump and Ron DeSantis, have elevated Haley's chances. With voting about to begin, Haley is doing a balancing act between loyalty and strength positions her as a plausible contender. However, the episode marks a challenging week for Haley, raising questions about her political standing amidst the intricate dynamics of potential vice-presidential considerations.
From over the weekend:
Minimum wage UP in these 22 states on January 1, 2024
In 2024, 22 U.S. states are set to increase their minimum wages. However, the federal minimum wage has remained stagnant at $7.25 since 2009, with 20 states still adhering to this baseline. The Economic Policy Institute estimates that the wage increases in these 22 states will benefit 9.9 million workers, injecting $6.95 billion into their earnings. There will be a notable impact on women, black and Hispanic workers, working families, and those in high-cost-of-living states. Despite these strides, there remains an urgent need to increase the federal minimum wage, with 17.6 million workers still earning less than $15 per hour. This is especially important now against the backdrop of rising living costs, housing affordability challenges, and the misconception that individuals seek fair wages, not welfare shortcuts. While some progress is being made this year, there needs to be a resounding call for comprehensive federal action to raise the $7.25 baseline.

As a Canadian, I shake my head at the unbelievable complexity of the U.S. government system. Electing the president separately from Congress and the senate, so they may be at odds with each other. The idea of electoral votes instead of popular votes deciding who will be president. It's no wonder your country is called a "failed democracy". In my opinion, the parliamentary system is far superior.
