Unhinged Newsmax Reporter FACEPLANTS with Psaki Gotcha Attempt
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki used some really basic epistemology techniques in a recent press briefing that made a Newsmax reporter’s gotcha questions sound foolish. The reporter’s name is Emerald Robinson and she opened the exchange by saying “there’s a growing perception [Biden’s presidency] is really just the third term of President Obama. What do you say to people who say that?” Psaki, instead of buying into the framing, challenged Robinson to say specifically who has been saying that, which of course she couldn’t do. Robinson also mentioned in her question that Biden has a “relatively light schedule” which is funny following a president who spent his entire lame duck period complaining about his reelection defeat. The White House spokesperson began to grow impatient with the lack of specifics on the reporter’s question and the clear attempt to drive a narrative across.
Once the first gotcha question failed, Emerald thought it a good idea to ask about a different topic — coronavirus. Instead of inquiring about the status of the vaccine rollout or new CDC guidelines, Robinson wanted to know if Dr. Anthony Fauci had anything to hide regarding the Wuhan lab leak theory. She asked a specific question about a program in China apparently funded by the National Institutes of Health, which Jen was not aware of. The reporter then suggested the lab leak hypothesis was believed by all public health officials except for Dr. Fauci and that Biden had to choose between Fauci and the rest of them. While it’s true that some virologists like former CDC Director Robert Redfield have come around to the lab leak theory, most experts in this field maintain the virus likely jumped from an animal to a human. Regardless, Biden and Fauci don’t have an agenda on the topic and are operating based on what the research finds. Jen Psaki reiterated that there should be an investigation as to the origins of COVID-19 led by public health experts and then quickly moved onto the next reporter.
Scary Interview with Election "Truther" Goes Horribly Wrong
The Arizona Republican Party is doing a recount and audit of some of the votes cast in the state’s 2020 election. Even though the race was decided 6 months ago, the GOP can’t move forward from the defeat of its dear leader, Donald Trump and so they are leaving no stone unturned and holding onto hope wherever they can find it. A full hand recount and audit of the ballots and voting machines is underway in Maricopa County — which contains Phoenix. The State Senate took possession of 2.1 million ballots and nearly 400 election machines and turned them over to be audited by companies that include one whose CEO promoted debunked election fraud theories. Until Biden’s victory in Maricopa County in November, a Democratic presidential candidate hadn’t won the county since 1948. He did so with a margin of 45,109 votes. Biden won Arizona overall by only 10,457 votes.
Election officials are now hard at work but it’s unclear what they’re expecting to find all these months after the contest. John Brakey, one of the election officials tasked with running the audit, explained on video that auditors have a special light which will allow them to detect bamboo fibers on the ballots which may have been smuggled in from Asia. As is typical with Trumpist conspiracy theories, this one makes no sense and it’s not clear how the theory of bamboo in the paper would set up a Biden win. But the key takeaway is that these are the people in charge of auditing an election from 6 months ago. Regardless of what they find, the election won’t be overturned. Even if Republicans come across a smoking gun in Arizona, Joe Biden is president now and he didn’t even need to secure the Grand Canyon State to make that happen. More than likely, this recount will find nothing and go down as yet another pathetic and desperate attempt by the Republican Party to subvert democracy in America.
From over the weekend:
Eric Trump Challenges His Dad for Most Unintelligible Word Salad
Eric Trump, son of the former president, appeared on Greg Kelly’s Newsmax show and offered up a 2-minute word salad that was supposed to pass for right-wing commentary. Eric spoke about how his dad is supposedly really hard working and he made claims like “there’s never been a person in political history that’s campaigned as hard as my father has.” Eric then contrasted this to Joe Biden staying “in his basement” in Wilmington, Delaware throughout much of the campaign cycle. To the Trumps, flying around the country to give ranting speeches in front of sycophantic audiences is considered hard work. Eric wrapped up by saying that even members of the media would admit his father was the hardest working president ever. This is a brazen, shameless lie. The last occupant of the Oval Office barely worked and spent his days tweeting, golfing, and watching Fox News. It’s hard to conceive of a lazier president than Donald Trump, yet the Newsmax audience actually believes he was always hard at work.
