You Were Wrong: Trump Didn't Cause Progressive Change
Back during the 2016 election cycle, there were people on the left who said Donald Trump becoming president would be better than Hillary Clinton becoming president for the progressive movement. The idea was that while a Clinton presidency would reinforce the status quo, a Trump presidency would shake things up, accelerate the damage being done to the country, and pave the way for a progressive president to take charge. This strategy did not work in 2016, yet there are some on the left who want to try it again in 2020 by deciding not to cast a ballot for Joe Biden.
The lessons of history show us that the largest waves of progressive change in America happened over long periods of time. The Progressive era at the turn of the 20th century, the New Deal era of the 1930s and the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and ‘60s are strong examples. They did not result from a “break it all down to build it back up” approach but rather incremental changes through legislation and the courts. While Joe Biden would not be a progressive champion as president, he would be much more likely to send the country in a leftward direction than four more years of Donald Trump.
SHOCK: Hannity Scolds Partiers Over Masks, Defends George Floyd
Fox News propagandist Sean Hannity scolded Missouri partiers for not wearing masks and seemed to criticize the Minneapolis police officer who killed George Floyd. On the masks, Hannity astutely pointed out that if the party-goers get the virus and are “in contact with older and more vulnerable Americans, that could be a disaster for others.” About the killing of George Floyd, Hannity said even a rudimentary training session in martial arts could have taught the officer to be aware of the danger of compressing someone’s neck.
These are quite rare and very interesting moments of clarity on Sean Hannity's program. A cyclical view would be that he’s doing this because Fox News is worried about getting sued over their coverage of the virus. Whatever the reason is, we will take it. This doesn’t excuse Hannity’s years of dishonest and dangerous commentary. But there’s a chance that Hannity can pierce through the right-wing echo-chamber and change a few minds about topics like social distancing and police brutality.

David, I've been looking for a way to send you a request. So I joined as an annual member. I really appreciate your fine work. Thank you. My request is this: The truth about racism is fully exposed to all who are willing to see the truth. However, we contribute. Language is powerful. Instead of saying "black people", or "brown people", or "blacks" or "whites", could you start something? Instead say the word PEOPLE first, then add, with black skin, or white skin, or brown skin. We are ONE people, who have different characteristics. LET'S NOT support trump cult pretense that people who don't have white skin are not in fact PEOPLE. It contributes to the whole "otherization" they are relentlessly engaged in day in and day out. I'm sick of their mendacity, putridity, vileness.
