Trumpist Interview Confirms Everything Wrong with America
CNN reporter Donie O’Sullivan conducted an interview with a Trump supporter named Kinnet Ehring McSweeney and it confirmed just about everything that is wrong with the American right wing. McSweeney had some wacky yet predictable views, including that the 2020 election was stolen by Joe Biden and Democrats and that the January 6th Capitol insurrection was conducted by left-wing agitators. She explained to O’Sullivan that her family thinks she is crazy and a conspiracy theorist. McSweeney didn’t see any problem with believing in baseless conspiracy theories like QAnon. She also didn’t believe there to be a connection between far right conspiracy theories and the Trump riots.
McSweeney is certainly not alone in her beliefs. A new Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 63% of Republicans strongly or somewhat disagree that Trump is at least partly to blame for the events of January 6th. Six out of ten Republicans strongly or somewhat agree that the 2020 election was stolen from former President Trump. And 55% of Republican respondents believe the Capitol riots were led by “violent left-wing protesters trying to make Trump look bad.” This means that there are many more Trump-type Republicans out there than reasonable Republicans. This is a massive issue for the country. If the American right refuses to live in a fact-based reality, there is no hope for making a good faith approach to public policy.
Trump EXPLODES at Republican Event...AGAINST Republicans!
One-term ex-president Donald Trump spoke to Republican donors at an event in Mar-a-Lago and he made some brutal attacks against GOP leadership. The New York Times reports that Trump had some choice words for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, calling him a “dumb son of a bitch.” The former president also said about McConnell, “a real leader would not have accepted the results of the 2020 election” and “I hired his wife. Did he ever say thank you to me? No.” The crowd of donors at the fundraiser reportedly enjoyed the commentary. Trump also attacked Mike Pence, saying Pence should have had the “courage” to refuse to certify the results. He then went after Dr. Anthony Fauci, which prompted the room to applaud. Though he may be weakened, there’s no question that Donald Trump still exercises control over the Republican Party from his Palm Beach resort.
From over the weekend:
Why Doesn't Biden Brag About the Stock Market, Like Trump Did?
An audience member wrote in and asked if Joe Biden should brag about the stock market in the way that Donald Trump used to. While presidents have little to do with stock market performance, Trump bragged endlessly about it during his four years. Now the question is whether Biden should do the same. The truth is that Biden’s base isn’t as motivated or persuaded based on how the S&P 500 is doing. That doesn’t mean that Biden shouldn’t talk about it when appropriate, but the PR advantages aren’t entirely there. It may make sense for Biden to mention stock market performance on occasion, to prove that it performs well under Democratic presidents as it does (to a lesser extent) under Republican presidents. It will also communicate to the American people that the claims Trump had, about 401(k)s becoming worthless if Biden took the White House, were indeed bogus.

I am so scared, David... I’m 66 yo and have become jaded in my old days. I see how things aren’t changing, and I fear they never will.
