Fox News Debate EXPLODES, "You Son of a B!tc&!"
A Fox News debate between Geraldo Rivera and Dan Bongino went off the rails yesterday and became a competition of screaming and insults. The pair went on Sean Hannity’s nighttime show to discuss the unrest in Minnesota following the police shooting of 20-year-old Daunte Wright, combined with the ongoing murder trial of the officer who killed George Floyd last year. In the conversation, Rivera was much more sympathetic to the protests than Bongino was. He pointed out that black parents are outraged seeing their kids killed by police at twice the rate of whites. This prompted Bongino to say “you got nothing else buddy” and “all you want to do is see the country burn.” This angered Rivera, who called Bongino a “son of a bitch” and a “punk.” Hannity then awkwardly took back control of the interview and threw to a commercial break.
Rivera is much closer to the correct side of this argument (even though he lost his cool at the end). But the bigger picture here is that this is all nonsense. Fox, which continually blurs the line between news and commentary, always starts from the position that the police are doing the right thing. It’s also obvious to the viewer which guest the host of the program agrees with; in this case, we know Hannity sides with Bongino. And then, they put the guests in tiny boxes and have them deliver their pre-packaged taking points in a very tight window of time. Since these interviews are not really the format for expanded nuanced conversation, and instead it’s all about “winning,” it makes sense that so often these panel segments devolve into shouting matches.
Matt Gaetz Will Be Kicked Off Committees If He Gets Charged
Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz, who is currently being investigated for potential sex trafficking and prostitution crimes, continues to lose support from his Republican colleagues. House Minority Whip Steve Scalise suggested yesterday that Gaetz will be kicked off of his committee assignments if he is indicted over the scandal. Scalise told reporters, "it's hard to speculate on rumors, but if something really formal happened from Justice, we would of course react and take action." If Gaetz is eventually convicted, it will almost certainly mean the end of his days as a US congressman. Gaetz has maintained his innocence throughout the ordeal and blamed the allegations on left-wing cancel culture. Most Republicans refuse to defend the congressman publicly at this point, including President Trump. Scalise’s statements yesterday were the latest sign that these allegations could actually end Gaetz’s political career and perhaps even put him in prison.
From yesterday’s show:
Mike Lindell TRIGGERED, Costco Stops Selling MyPillow
Costco, like many other retailers, has decided to stop selling MyPillow. This is likely because Mike Lindell, the CEO of MyPillow, has been one of the primary promulgators of conspiracy theories related to the 2020 election. It’s Lindell’s current position that Donald Trump will come back to the presidency in August because the truth will soon come out about Democrats rigging the election for Biden. Furious with so many retail outlets “canceling” his pillows, Lindell has announced that he is launching a competitor to Amazon known as “MyStore.” In reality, this looks like a place for Lindell to sell his pillows without having to go through traditional methods. It’s been stunning to watch the decline of Mike Lindell, who ever since hitching his wagon to Trump, has continued to tarnish whatever was left of his credibility.
