Andrew Cuomo RESIGNS Over Sexual Harassment Allegations
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced that he is going to be resigning from his post, following a months-long sexual harassment scandal. The news comes on the heels of prominent Democrats like Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, and Chuck Schumer calling on him to step down. Cuomo was accused by multiple women of groping, unwanted kissing, and promoting and demoting subordinates depending on how they responded to his advances. Last week, New York’s Attorney General Letitia James said in a press conference that Cuomo violated state and federal laws with his actions. The state’s legislative bodies were making the early moves to impeach the governor over the scandal and appeared to have the votes to oust him. Cuomo has not been in good graces with the state assembly and state senate ever since covering up data from them over a separate scandal involving sending COVID positive patients into nursing homes.
Cuomo only addressed some of the allegations against him in his resignation speech and ignored the more serious ones. He tried to chalk it up as being part of a cultural and generational divide mixed with a rush to cancel people for the slightest transgressions. Cuomo said, “In my mind, I’ve never crossed the line with anyone. But, I didn’t realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn.” The outgoing governor also gave a weak apology to the women affected, saying “this is not to say that there are not 11 women who I truly offended. There are and for that, I deeply, deeply apologize.” Cuomo wrapped up the speech by acting like he was doing the big and noble thing to step aside as to not divert state attention and resources from the COVID-19 pandemic and other top issues of the day. However, given how long he resisted calls for his resignation, it’s obvious that Cuomo would have continued on at his job had he thought he had the votes to survive impeachment. With the possibility of criminal charges for Cuomo still on the table, this may not be the end for him and this scandal.
MyPillow Mike Lindell Delays Cybersymposium, Says It Was HACKED
MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell’s cybersymposium got off to a slow start yesterday, as he claimed the event was “hacked” leading to an hours-long delay of his presentation. This was a rough beginning for Lindell, who has claimed (even on this show) that this cybersymposium is going to change the hearts and minds of so many people that it will lead to the 2020 election being overturned unanimously by the Supreme Court. The Trump-loving pillow salesman talked a big game even as the event was floundering, telling the audience “everybody, tonight you’re going to see something at 7 o’clock that’s going to change the world . . . and then also tomorrow.” The audience responded with a tepid applause. At another point during the event, the event organizers singled it was time to break for lunch which set Lindell off. He said “no, we’re not going on a break. Put up that movie again, run the movie. There’s no breaks. We’re streaming 72 hours, live streaming — so around the world, this never stops. You guys can go eat, that’s fine, but I’m not eating. I’m staying up here 72 hours before they ruin our signal.” Maybe day two of Lindell’s cybersymposium will go a little better for him, but it’s hard to believe his followers will be satisfied by this after all of the buildup and promises of actual evidence.
From yesterday’s show:
Democrats Seek Greatest Improvement to Social Safety Net in Generations
Democrats have their eyes set on their next legislative priorities following the passing of the $1 trillion infrastructure package in the Senate on Tuesday. Now, Democrats are working on a blueprint to budget $3.5 trillion to expand the social safety net to the greatest degree in generations while also working to curb climate change. The budget resolution would include provisions for health care, child and elder care, and education measures and would be paid for in part by raising taxes on wealthy corporations and large inheritances. Using the budget reconciliation process, Democrats could pass this legislation without a single Republican vote, provided that centrist Dems Joe Machin and Kyrsten Sinema don’t break party lines. Like clockwork, Republican lawmakers are emerging saying the country cannot afford this expansion to the safety net and that this will surely add to the national deficit and debt. These same folks were happy to vote for Donald Trump’s budgets and tax cuts and those of George W. Bush before him. Now that Democrats are trying to invest in the working and middle class members of our society, all of a sudden Republicans claim we are out of money and can’t do that.
