Dripping-Sweaty Trump Destroyed on Fox, Historic Implosion
Donald Trump went on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace and made an absolute fool of himself. The President was forced to react to new polling that has him down to Joe Biden eight points nationally, with voters saying Biden is better on the economy, race relations, and the virus. Trump bragged about acing a test that had him identify an elephant and claimed that Chris Wallace wouldn’t be able to pass it. On two separate occasions, Trump awkwardly stopped the interview to get documents he claimed would back up his assertions. He said the US coronavirus mortality rate is among the lowest in the world, (it’s the 10th highest). He also said that Joe Biden supports abolishing or defunding the police (he does not). Trump was called out on his lies at nearly every turn and he sounded like a deranged madman trying to defend himself.
Chris Wallace is getting a lot of praise for how he handled the interview, and some of it is deserved. Trump almost exclusively goes on favorable networks and shows these days where the hosts don’t question him. Wallace, by contrast, will actually push back and it’s why he provokes the ire of so many Trumpists. The bar has been set so low by Fox News and other right-wing outlets that it makes it look as though Wallace is asking hard-hitting questions. We’ll see if Trump will be willing to go back on his show ever again.
POLL: Trump Less Mentally Fit Than Biden
A new Fox News poll has Joe Biden ahead of Donald Trump, 49% to 41%. The poll went into detail about the candidates and current events. When asked what the most important issue is ahead of the 2020 election, twenty-nine percent of respondents said coronavirus. Fifteen percent said the economy, jobs and unemployment. Ten percent said race relations and police issues. Biden happens to be leading Trump on all three.
The Fox poll also had a question about mental soundness. Forty-seven percent of respondents believed Biden has the mental soundness to be president and only forty-three percent believed Trump does. The fact that neither candidate has half the country believing they are mentally sound is a problem. But the bottom line is, more people question Donald Trump’s mental fitness than Joe Biden’s. That is bad news for the Trump team, which has been trying to make Biden’s cognitive abilities a focus in the campaign.
From over the weekend:
Will Republicans Oppose Electoral College If It Hurts Them?
A caller asked whether Republicans would support abolishing the electoral college if their presidential candidate lost it despite winning the popular vote. It’s hard to say. They very well could change their minds, because they never hold themselves to their own standards. However, the electoral college is arguably favorable to Republicans because it boosts the voting power of smaller states. In this election, it’s unlikely to be a problem for them. If current trends continue, Joe Biden will almost certainly win the popular vote, but the electoral college could very well be in play.
