Trump Adviser Handcuffed & Indicted, Trump LOSES IT
Former Trump adviser Peter Navarro has been arrested and charged with contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with the January 6th committee’s requests. Navarro complained to members of the media after getting released, calling the treatment of him a violation of the Constitution. He said, “They intercepted me getting on the plane and then they put me in handcuffs, they bring me here. They put me in leg irons. They stick me in a cell.” The January 6th Committee posted a response to the arrest on Twitter, saying, “while today’s indictment of Peter Navarro was the correct decision by the Justice Department, we find the decision to reward Mark Meadows and Dan Scavino for their continued attack on the rule of law puzzling.” Certainly charges should be coming for everyone refusing to cooperate with Congress on this investigation, but at least getting Peter Navarro in handcuffs is a start.
Secret Service Was Warned Trump Might Endanger Pence on January 6
Secret Service was warned on the eve of the January 6th Capitol insurrection that Mike Pence’s life may be put in danger by Donald Trump and his supporters. Marc Short, who worked as Pence’s Chief of Staff, told his top Secret Service agent, Tim Giebels, “there could be a security risk to Mr. Pence” because he was unwilling to comply with Trump’s wishes to send certain electoral votes back to the states. Indeed, Short was right to make such a warning and Trump did turn on Pence as the congressional votes were being counted. This led to rioters at the Capitol chanting “hang Mike Pence” and the vice president having to be taken out of the House chamber and over to a secure location. The Secret Service is used to having to assess threats against executive officials, but never before did it have to worry about such a threat coming from the President of the United States himself.

Greg Abbott Blames Mental Health for Shootings, De-Funded Mental Health
Ever since the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has been going around blaming mental health for the tragedy as a way to avoid blaming easy access to guns. At a recent press conference, Abbott said, “one thing that has substantially changed is the status of mental health in our communities. What I do know is this — and that is we as a state, we as a society, need to do a better job with mental health. Anybody who shoots somebody else has a mental health challenge, period. We as a government, need to find a way to target that mental health challenge.” Unsurprisingly, Abbott’s record on expanding mental health care access is abysmal. In April, the governor cut $211 million from a state mental health commission. Texas ranks last among all states in access to mental health treatment. Abbott should absolutely have to answer for this failure and hypocrisy while at the same time addressing the danger that easy access to guns presents.

Christians Openly Calling for Murder of Gays
With same sex marriage being the law of the land for the past seven years, it can sometimes be easy to forget that there are still homophobic people in the country who want to change the laws so they can kill gay people. For example, a Christian pastor in Arlington, Texas spoke at a committee hearing about a scheduled gay pride parade and expressed his view that LGBT people are an abomination and should be executed. He said, “I don’t understand why we should celebrate what used to be a crime not long ago. . . . god has already ruled that murder, adultery, witchcraft, rape, beastiality, and homosexuality are crimes worthy of capital punishment.” As the pastor was ranting, members of the crowd could be heard shouting in approval and saying “amen.” This goes to show that the Christian conservatives in this country won’t be satisfied with overturning abortion rights and they will go further, perhaps targeting LGBT issues next.
