HUMILIATING: Fox Sends Reporter to Border to Speak Spanish
In one of the most embarrassing Fox News segments of all time, a reporter was sent down to the southern border to cover the so-called “crisis” of migrants making the journey though Mexico to cross into the United States. The reporter is Griff Jenkins, who came across a random guy sitting in a shallow part of the Rio Grande. Jenkins assumed the man to be a “smuggler” before speaking to him and approach him to ask a few questions. When the man indicated he doesn’t speak English, Jenkins tried using his low-level Spanish skills live on air. The man seemed disinterested in speaking to him and appeared overwhelmed by everything that was going on but still engaged with the Fox reporter politely. When asked why he helps bring people across the border, the man simply replied by saying he wants to help people achieve the American dream.
Despite the exchange not going well from the start due to the language barrier, Jenkins got closer to the man who was still sitting in the Rio Grande because as he explained, that’s as far as he could legally go. Jenkins, in broken Spanish, kept trying to ask the man if he had heard Biden’s statements on the border and whether he thinks the border is open or closed. It was clear that the Fox reporter barely could understand what he was being told, so he pressed on instead about how profitable it is to help people make the journey across the border. Eventually, the host of the Fox show at the time, Neil Cavuto, couldn’t take it anymore and cut away from some of the worst Spanish ever spoken on live television. It was unclear what Fox was trying to accomplish with this segment, but it made the man sitting in the water look really sympathetic, while Griff Jenkins and Fox didn’t look so spectacular.
NUTS: 30% of Republicans Think Trump Will Be "Reinstated"
Nearly 30% of Republicans think that Donald Trump is going to be reinstated as president this year. This is according to a Politico-Morning Consult Poll published on Wednesday. To some degree, these results make sense as in recent weeks, the New York Times, Washington Post, and National Review have all reported that Trump is saying he will be brought back as president around August. This lines up with the long-standing predictions of MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, who has kept the voter fraud conspiracy theories going long after most of Trump’s allies lost interest. Perhaps almost as shocking is that 16% of Democrats think Trump might be made president again before the next election. There is absolutely no mechanism for Trump returning to power before 2025. The US Constitution allows no process for reinstating a former president or defeated presidential candidate. Perhaps the people who think Trump is coming back this year simply don’t know this. There’s also the possibility that people think Trump will be able to return to power through violent means. This could include by way of another coup attempt similar to the January 6th Capitol riots. Whatever the case may be, it’s amazing to see how many people live in this alternate reality and think Trump could be “reinstated.”
From yesterday’s show:
Fox REFUSES to Run Ad Where Police Condemn Trump Rioters
Fox News, which claims to support the police, is refusing to run an advertisement that features police officers condemning the January 6th Capitol riots. The one-minute ad includes a montage of footage from that day along with testimonials from Capitol Police officers on what they had to deal with then and ever since. Meidas Touch, the company that produced the ad, has said that the news outlet called them last Friday to tell them they wouldn’t be airing it. Ben Meiselas, co-founder of Meidas Touch, says they paid $184,854 to have the ad run from June 6th-15th, and that Fox never actually gave them a reason for why they blocked it. The reason for Fox not allowing the ad seems rather obvious, which is that it would make Donald Trump and Republicans look bad. Fox will “back the blue” so long as it plays into their narrative, but in this particular instance, it takes a backseat to Trump, who their viewers care about much more.
