Trump To Deliver Propaganda Speech on Trump Riot Anniversary
Donald Trump has scheduled a press conference in Mar-a-Lago on January 6, 2022, the one-year anniversary of the Capitol riots. Ever since the insurrection took place, Trump and his allies have been trying to rewrite the story about what happened on that fateful day in Washington DC. This propaganda speech and press event will likely serve to distract media attention away from recapping the events from a year ago and towards his remarks which many outlets will broadcast in full. Trump announced the event with the following statement: "I will be having a news conference on January 6th at Mar-a-Lago to discuss all of these points, and more. Until then, remember, the insurrection took place on November 3rd, it was the completely unarmed protest of the rigged election that took place on January 6th." Most likely, Trump will just recite the same talking points he always does at rallies about voter fraud and how horrible the country is supposedly doing under President Biden.
McConnell Tells Manchin to Join The Republican Party
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is trying to capitalize on the feud between West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin and the rest of the Democrats. McConnell is now offering Manchin a spot in the Republican Party. If this were to happen, the balance of power in the upper chamber would shift to Republican as they’d have 51 votes to Democrats’ 49. McConnell in an interview with The New York Times said, “obviously we would love to have him on our team. I think he’d be more comfortable. Why in the world would they want to call him a liar and try to hotbox him and embarrass him?” Manchin has made veiled suggestions about leaving the Democratic Party before and uses this threat when he wants to ward off criticism from his own side. McConnell and the rest of the Republicans must view the infighting over Manchin dropping his support for the Build Back Better Act as a perfect opportunity to get power back at least a year earlier than expected in order to thwart the Biden administration’s attempts to get more legislative accomplishments done before the midterms.

Republican Congressman Encourages Anti-Vaxxers to Keep It Up
Republican Congressman Paul Gosar is doing his best to appeal to the anti-vax community. In a video that surfaced this week, Gosar said to a fan holding up a camera, “here’s to that anti-vaxxer group. Stay the course.” Vaccine skepticism is already running rampant in the country and in many cases it’s turned out to be deadly for those who buy into it. The last thing we need is a member of Congress telling these people to keep up what they’re doing. This message is especially dangerous coming from a pro-Trump Republican since GOP voters and staunch Trump supporters are among the groups most likely to be unvaccinated in this country. The longer these conspiracy theories continue to plague the right, the longer the pandemic will go on and the more likely it will be the case that Republicans are effectively killing their own voter base. To make matters even crazier, by all accounts Rep. Gosar is fully vaccinated against COVID-19. However like with so many issues dealing with the American right-wing, this hypocrisy is unlikely to faze them.
From yesterday’s show:
Omicron Takes Over, Responsible for Most New COVID Cases
The Omicron variant is now the dominant strain of COVID in the United States, with the estimate being it makes up at least 73% of new coronavirus cases. The new infection rate has been averaging over 100,000 cases a day with disease experts estimating it can go a lot higher. Making matters worse are the travel and get-togethers coming up for the end-of-year holiday season. President Biden spoke this week about the surge in cases and reminded everyone that this is becoming a pandemic of the unvaccinated. Even though immunized people can still test positive, the people getting hit especially hard and in some cases going to the hospital and dying tend to be the unvaxxed. Biden also encouraged people to get a booster shot if they haven’t already done so, since it’s been shown the efficacy of the vaccines wane over time. While the new variant appears to be more contagious, the evidence so far suggests it may not be as deadly as previous versions. However it’s going to take at least a couple more weeks to confirm that is truly the case in the United States.
