Bari Weiss HUMILIATES Herself on CNN
Former New York Times reporter Bari Weiss went on CNN’s “Reliable Sources” with Brian Stelter to criticize the left-wing and mainstream media. Conservatives are hailing Weiss’s performance as a smackdown of Stelter and CNN but her talking points were largely hyperbolic and they didn’t all add up. She wrote in her “Common Sense” Substack post, “there are tens of millions of Americans who aren’t on the hard left or the hard right who feel that the world has gone mad.” When asked on CNN to provide some examples, Weiss started off well by saying the COVID lab leak hypothesis should not be written off as a racist conspiracy theory. But then she went overboard by pretending it’s a standard left-wing position that there are zero differences between men and women. Weiss also criticized being “not allowed to acknowledge that rioting is rioting and it is bad” and “in the name of progress, young school children, as young as kindergarten, being separated because of their race.” Most of the examples Weiss provided were fringe cases that do not in anyway represent mainstream left-wing opinions and to pretend like they do is disingenuous.
Trump's New "Free Speech" Platform Will Ban You for Criticizing It
Donald Trump announced his long-awaited social media site yesterday and already it sounds like a joke. Don Jr. went on Fox News and said that the site, “Truth Social,” will be “a platform for everyone to express their feelings.” He went on to explain that the site is beginning its beta testing and that it will launch to the public in “the next few weeks,” which is the same timeline Trump Sr. would give during his presidency when he wanted to pretend like he was actually working on something. Not surprisingly, Truth Social will not be living up to its established values of free speech and an open exchange of dialogue. The twenty-third rule for Trump’s social media site is that users can’t use it to make fun of Truth Social itself. According to the rules so far listed, users cannot “disparage, tarnish, or otherwise harm, in our opinion, us and/or the Site.” The terms of service also include a forum selection clause similar to the ones Trump lawyers just got done arguing are unenforceable. So the hypocrisy from Trump and his team once again knows no bounds. It’ll be interesting to see if this ever gets off the ground, and if it does, whether Trump supporters and anyone else will actually be using it.
From yesterday’s show:
Trump Attacks Deceased Colin Powell in Sick Statement
Donald Trump released a statement on the passing of Colin Powell that was so callous it was almost difficult to believe it was issued by a former president. Trump said via his Save America PAC, “wonderful to see Colin Powell, who made big mistakes on Iraq and famously, so-called weapons of mass destruction, be treated in death so beautifully by the Fake News Media. Hope that happens to me someday. He was a classic RINO, if even that, always being the first to attack other Republicans. He made plenty of mistakes, but anyway, may he rest in peace!” This is an envious reaction to Colin Powell’s death and a way to make the news of someone’s passing all about him. Trump did the same thing when John McCain died back in 2018, making fun of how his book supposedly didn’t sell well and criticizing his “no” vote on repealing Obamacare. Most politicians have the common sense and decency not to disparage a fellow public servant so soon after their death. Of course, Trump has no such common sense and decency and his words about Colin Powell are just the latest example of that.
From yesterday’s show:
OH BOY: Bitcoin is EXPLODING
The price of Bitcoin reached an all-time high yesterday getting all the way up to $67,000. Also in the past few weeks and months there has been a major mainstreaming of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, suggesting that they are not merely a fad and are indeed here to stay as assets or alternative payment methods. We’re learning that university endowments like at Harvard and Brown having invested in Bitcoin for years. Financial advisory companies like JP Morgan are now recommending people hold about one percent of their portfolios in Bitcoin. Morgan Stanley has started offering its wealthy clients access to Bitcoin funds. ETFs for Bitcoin futures are going live including on the New York Stock Exchange. There are also more and more companies now accepting cryptocurrency as a form of payment, including Microsoft, Home Depot, and Starbucks. All of this together suggests that Bitcoin is not merely a passing fad. Without saying anything about where the price will go short or long term, there has been so much widespread adoption at this point that it must be here to stay.
