Fox Host quietly inserting facts, co-hosts don't notice
In a recent conversation on Fox & Friends, co-host Steve Doocy came across as the voice of reason as he occasionally does on the program. First, Doocy made the case that just because Donald Trump is leading in the Republican primary polls now, that doesn’t necessarily mean that he will be when it’s time for voters to cast their ballots. Doocy said, “In May of 2007, Romney, McCain and Rudy were all in the top three and Mike Huckabee was at 0%. But Mike Huckabee went on to win the Iowa caucuses. And then in May 2015, the top three were Walker, Rubio and Huckabee, and Cruz and Trump, who finished one and two, were not even at 10%.” Doocy went on to make an argument for a Trump alternative because that person could serve two terms while Trump would be a "lame duck" on his first day of a potential second term. These observations are actually grounded in reality and depart from the typical narrative we hear on Fox News.
Fox Host says Trump attacking Kayleigh McEnany is "insane"
Fox & Friends covered Donald Trump's criticism of his former press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, regarding her reporting on his poll numbers. Co-host Brian Kilmeade expressed his disagreement with Trump's actions, noting that McEnany is now an employee of Fox News. Kilmeade said, “He flies off the handle, for example, attacking Kayleigh McEnany is insane. She was one of the best press secretaries ever. . . . She was fantastic, but she's an analyst now. She doesn't work for any campaign.” These comments highlight how the executives at Fox and many of the hosts would prefer if they didn’t have to defend Trump anymore. Unfortunately for them, the Republican Party they do propaganda for still loves Trump and that is reflected by his large lead in the GOP primary.
From yesterday’s show:
Chris Christie running against Trump in 2024
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is set to announce his candidacy for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. This will be Christie's second run for the presidency, with the announcement scheduled to take place at a town hall in Manchester, New Hampshire. NBC News has confirmed the news from two sources, highlighting that Christie previously finished sixth in the 2016 New Hampshire primary. Interestingly, ABC News has announced the suspension of its relationship with Christie due to his official candidacy. It’s expected that Christie will go after Trump directly, which is something that Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Tim Scott, and others have been hesitant to do. Christie likely doesn’t have a great shot at winning the primary but it’s possible he’ll be able to damage Trump’s campaign if his attacks on the debate stage are able to land.
From yesterday’s show:
Trump furious that DeSantis stole his line, which Trump stole from Reagan
Donald Trump is furious with Ron DeSantis for allegedly stealing a line from one of his speeches. The phrase in question is “the great American comeback.” However, it turns out that Trump actually took the line from Ronald Reagan. Trump's team released a video showing Trump using the phrase in 2020, followed by DeSantis using it in his recent speech. But it turns out the phrase has been used in speeches for a long time, with Reagan using it in his State of the Union speech back in 1986. These phrases are not unique and do not belong exclusively to any candidate. But it is amusing to see Trump accusing DeSantis of stealing something that Trump himself had borrowed from Reagan. Trump also took his main campaign slogan from Reagan, tweaking it only slightly from “let’s make America great again” to simply “make America great again.” This gives him even less credibility to speak about this supposed issue of plagiarism.
