Florida Republican Implodes on CNN: "We're Doing Fine"
Florida is one of the worst places in the world to be right now from the standpoint of coronavirus. The state is recording 10,000 to 15,000 new cases per day and there’s no sign of the trend turning around. Despite the ensuing disaster, some on the right are pretending as though everything is okay. Republican State Rep. Anthony Sabatini went on CNN to deny the breakout and argue that Florida on the metrics is “doing just fine.” CNN’s Brianna Keilar pointed out to Sabatini that cases and test positivity rates have spiked. Sabatini just wasn’t willing to accept the fact that Florida is the world’s new virus hotspot.
Sabatini sounded completely delusional in this interview. He praised Governor Ron DeSantis for his handling of the virus, calling it “on point.” DeSantis is engaged in a battle with Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and Texas Governor Greg Abbott over worst coronavirus response. As of right now, DeSantis might be winning that battle. The outbreak in Miami is being compared to the initial outbreak in Wuhan, China. But DeSantis doesn’t care and neither does Anthony Sabatini. These people will never be convinced by the data and the science.
Trump & Republicans’ Plot Against America
We are now at the point of no return for successfully handling the coronavirus before Election Day. There is a lag between implementing effective policy and seeing its results. Case rates first have to turn around before the death rate can decrease and we’ve seen that take months. In all likelihood, coronavirus will not be under control by the fall — it may even be a lot worse. Trump and Republicans will not be able to win on this issue and they’ll be desperate to hold onto power. Everything we’re seeing from them suggests they will go all in on an attempt to stifle the vote in November.
Republicans will use all the dirty tricks that they have. They’ll use lawsuits to wreak havoc on the electoral process. They’ll ban the use of secure drop boxes for submitting take-home ballots and try to limit the amount of people qualified to be poll workers. They will spread disinformation, intimidate voters, and prevent access to absentee ballots. None of these tactics are new, but they will need to use all of them at once this time. Trump and Republicans can’t make a coherent case on how they’re handling the coronavirus or the economy, so they’ll have to resort to playing dirty.
From yesterday’s show:
SHOCK: Biden +15, Trump Approval Collapses to 36%
Donald Trump is panicking over his chances to win the 2020 election. This week, he fired his campaign manager, Brad Parscale. Now a Quinnipiac poll has his approval rating down to 36%. Trump is also down in nearly all of the swing states and tied in Texas. If Biden wins Texas, he will almost certainly win the election. Biden is also edging out Trump on all of the major issues, including handling the economy. If Trump is going to win reelection, he’ll need a serious comeback. We just need to vote!
