Fauci BTFO's Tucker Carlson: "Bizarre" Mask Comments
Infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci is not holding back now that he doesn’t have to worry about getting fired by the person who occupies the Oval Office. This week, Fauci criticized Tucker Carlson over comments made by Carlson on his Fox News propaganda program. Tucker urged his viewers to accost those who wear masks outside and to tell them to take the masks off because they make him feel uncomfortable. He also recommended that his audience members call child protective services if they see any children wearing masks outside. Fauci responded to the Tucker clip on CNN by saying, “I think that’s self-evident that that’s bizarre . . . you’re talking about child abuse, really? Come on.”
Anthony Fauci has been in a truly unenviable position over the past year. While it’s great he no longer needs to worry about getting fired by Trump, he still has to deal a vast swath of Americans who don’t listen to COVID guidelines and hate his guts. Now, Fauci is frequently in the position of having to go on news shows to explain why some influential figure is wrong about the disease or how to mitigate it. This week, Fauci also responded to Joe Rogan’s bad advice that healthy 21-year-olds don’t need to get vaccinated. It would probably be best for everyone if the nation’s top infectious disease expert didn’t have to go over the most rudimentary public health advice one year into a pandemic, but sadly influential right-wing personalities like Tucker Carlson are making it necessary.
Republican Asks Doctor: Does COVID Vaccine Have Tracking Device?
A Republican official who represents Orange County, California named Don Wagner seriously asked during a hearing whether COVID-19 vaccines have tracking devices in them. The question came at an Orange County Board of Supervisors meeting where the prospect of "vaccine passports" was being discussed. Wagner said to a doctor testifying during the hearing, “in the vaccine, we heard about an injection of a tracking device. Is that being done anywhere in Orange County?” The doctor then chuckled and responded, “I’m sorry I just have to compose myself, there is not a vaccine with a tracking device embed in it that I know of [that] exists in the world, period.” It’s hard to tell whether Wagner was asking for his own sake or whether it was truly on behalf of his millions of constituents.
There are a couple of factors that make this exchange even more peculiar. For one, Wagner himself received a COVID vaccine this month. He posted to Twitter on April 3rd, “One and done with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine! . . . (Thank you Dr. Chau for administering my shot — quick and painless.)” The other thing is that if Republicans really are concerned with tracking devices, they should probably stop using their phones. Cell phones and apps track users’ locations quite effectively and they essentially make the need for a tracker via injection useless. Also, if the people making the vaccines wanted to microchip people, they wouldn’t need COVID as a cover to do it and instead could just put them in a different commonly-used vaccine. Hopefully, this tracking chip conspiracy theory won’t cause too many people to skip their shots.
From yesterday’s show:
Joe Biden Delivers Policy-Heavy 1st Major Speech
President Biden delivered a policy-heavy speech to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday. In what was effectively, although not technically, a State of the Union, Biden laid out the bullet points of the next part of his “Build Back Better” plan. Phase two is about providing direct aid to American families. Biden announced his support for legislation that would mandate paid family leave, boost child care, and make pre-school and community college tuition free. The speech was so full of policy substance in fact, that it prompted Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz to feign falling asleep. The House chamber looked quite different from typical presidential addresses. Social distancing requirements prevented the full government from showing up. This was also the first time that an American president was flanked on both sides by women during a speech to Congress. Biden opened his address by pointing out that historic moment as he congratulated Vice President Harris and House Speaker Pelosi.
