Donald Trump Jr Trusts Joe Rogan More Than Dr. Fauci
Donald Trump Jr. said on Twitter over the weekend that he trusts comedian and podcaster Joe Rogan more than he trusts infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci. The tweet read, “I trust @joergoan much more than I trust Anyhony Fauci. [sic]” Sadly, this one tweet is emblematic of a much larger problem in the United States, especially as it pertains to the right wing. Many conservatives treat academia and expertise with disdain while embracing the opinions of laypeople. As Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984, Dr. Fauci has had a long career in medicine. He is obviously a better source of scientific information than Joe Rogan. But people like Don Jr. see Dr. Fauci’s years of experience running NIAID as a reason to distrust him. This anti-intellectual logic helps explain why COVID cases and deaths have become so out of control in the United States.
Trump Statement Barely Intelligible, Hilariously Correct
Donald Trump released one of his “official statements” over the weekend that turned out to be a complete self-own. He posted, “anybody that doesn’t think there wasn’t massive Election Fraud in the 2020 Presidential Election is either very stupid, or very corrupt!” While it’s obvious what the ex-POTUS was trying to say here, a closer look shows that he actually expressed the reverse of what he meant to say. There is a double negative in this sentence, meaning Trump is actually referring to himself, his allies, and his supporters when he makes the insult about people being “stupid” and “corrupt.” These “official statements” don’t appear to be coming directly from Trump like his tweets so often did. So this double negative managed to get by him and at least one proof reader before it got sent out to whomever is still keeping up with these blog posts. It’s rare for people on the left to agree with anything Trump has to say, but in this one instance, Donald Trump is actually correct about something.
From over the weekend:
Republican Plays One Character on Fox, Another on CNN
Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace of South Carolina got caught playing one character on Fox News and another character on CNN. Both networks asked Rep. Mace a similar question about vaccines, but her answers were dramatically different. On Fox, Mace said, “in some studies that I have read, natural immunity gives you 27 times more protection against future COVID infection than a vaccination.” Certainly the 27 number is off by a large factor but more to the point, she chose to take the perspective of someone who is skeptical of vaccination when speaking to Fox viewers. Later on, Mace went on CNN and said something totally different. She told CNN’s audience, “I’ve been a proponent of vaccination and wearing masks when we need to. I’ve run ads encouraging my district to go and get vaccinated.” Mace is employing a tactic used by Donald Trump throughout his campaigns and presidency. She is delivering a different position on an issue depending on the audience she’s speaking to, even when the perspectives she presents are irreconcilable. This allows her to come across as agreeable to the widest swath of people while deflecting any possible criticism, even though she’s just being dishonest. If the strategy works for Rep. Mace, she’ll likely keep using it, especially if she has ambitions for higher office.
From over the weekend:
EPIC LOL: Trump Fraud Lawyer Under Federal Investigation
Sidney Powell, Donald Trump’s former voter fraud lawyer, just can’t seem to stay out of trouble. Powell is now under federal investigation for financial mishaps when doing her best to nullify the 2020 election. The probe, based out of Washington DC, is looking into the finances of the organization “Defending the Republic” which Powell set up to raise money for her lawsuits to challenge the election results in several states that Trump lost. Former Overstock.com and Defending the Republic CEO Patrick Byrne alleges that Powell used money raised by the group to pay for her defense in the billion dollar civil suit against her by Dominion Voting Systems. Defending the Republic already had to reach a $10,000 settlement this year with Florida’s charity regulator over these financial improprieties. While it’s good to see that Powell is being held accountable for her role in trying to end democracy in the United States, it’s unfortunately just because of a technicality. She’s only in trouble because of the financing of her 2020 election insanity, not the insanity itself.
