Soaking wet Trump makes fun of stutterers in sick speech
Donald Trump recently held a series of rallies in Iowa ahead of the state's caucuses, where he engaged in controversial behavior and made a number of inflammatory statements. Trump, during these events, targeted President Joe Biden's stutter, displaying ableism and branding Biden as a threat to democracy. Trump has a long history of mocking disabilities, including an instance during the 2016 election cycle when he did an impression of Serge Kovaleski, a reporter who suffers from a congenital joint condition. Trump defended individuals involved in the January 6th Capitol riots, endorsing a conspiracy theory implicating the FBI's role. Additionally, he propagated xenophobia by falsely suggesting that non-English speakers were being signed up to vote, raising concerns about potential election interference. Trump’s weekend rallies featured his typical dishonesty, conspiratorial narratives, and xenophobic rhetoric that his supporters have grown to expect and love him for.
Cops called on Lauren Boebert for beating her ex-husband, claims "self-defense"
Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert is facing allegations of committing a violent act against her ex-husband, leading to the police being called. Boebert, known for her outspoken conservative views, claims self-defense, but the incident has exposed what some see as stunning hypocrisy on traditional family values. The alleged physical altercation occurred in public at a restaurant, with an ongoing police investigation. Boebert's ex-husband, Jason Boebert, claims she punched him multiple times, providing a witness to support his account. The situation highlights a pattern of alleged physical abuse in the Boebert relationship, and critics argue it underscores the hypocrisy of political figures dictating moral standards while having blemished track records themselves. The incident raises questions about the kind of leaders embraced by some Republicans and the credibility of those who claim moral superiority while facing accusations of domestic violence.
From over the weekend:
Anti-vaxxers crumble as every prediction fails to come true
Anti-vaxxers and COVID skeptics made plenty of predictions in the lead-up to 2023 which turned out to be completely untrue. One such example of someone completely wrong about this is osteopathic physician and conspiracy theorist Sherri Tenpenny. Tenpenny had asserted in late 2022 that a substantial number of people would die from the COVID vaccine in 2023, a claim that was criticized at the time for lacking any supporting evidence. She also argued that fully vaccinated individuals over the age of 30 would develop vaccine-induced AIDS by the end of 2022. Others suggested a “tsunami of deaths” related to the vaccine, echoing previously exaggerated forecasts that failed to materialize. There was never any reason to believe this would take place, and now that 2023 has ended, there’s a well-timed opportunity to point out the absurdity of these bogus predictions.
From over the weekend:
MAGA in shambles, Detroit has fewest homicides in 57 years
Right-wingers assert the narrative that “Democrat-run” cities, specifically Detroit, are experiencing an increase in crime in 2023. Contrary to this narrative, data from Detroit reveals that the city recorded its lowest number of homicides in 57 years, dating back to 1966. While acknowledging room for improvement with 252 homicides reported, the statistics present a significant decline. Nonfatal shootings decreased for the fourth consecutive year, and overall violent crime in Detroit dropped by 1.6% from 2022. Carjackings notably decreased by 33%, reaching levels unseen since the term was coined in 1991. Though property crime showed a marginal increase of 1.7%, driven by larceny, motor vehicle theft decreased by 4%. These positive trends challenge the prevailing notion of increased crime in “Democrat-run” cities. The Detroit police attribute the improvements to effective data-based strategies, the hard work of police officers, and collaboration with partners. Nationwide, there has been a 13% decline in killings across the United States, marking the largest on record. Other cities, including Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and New York, also reported significant drops in homicides, challenging the broader narrative of a crime-ridden nation under Joe Biden.
