DeSantis confronted by voter furious about Dr. Seuss book ban
As the New Hampshire primary approaches, Ron DeSantis, currently polling a distant third, faced criticism at a town hall over alleged book bans in Florida schools. A participant claimed his librarian friend wouldn't vote for DeSantis due to a Dr. Seuss book being banned. DeSantis vehemently denied the accusation, attributing it to activists distorting facts. He argued that the focus should be on addressing objectionable content, such as pornographic books, in schools. The incident reflects a broader trend of Republicans emphasizing controversial issues like book bans and transgender sports policies, potentially as substitutes for substantive political matters. Hopefully, these authoritarian efforts backfire on Republicans, similar to how the overturning of Roe v Wade in 2022 led to a disappointing election performance for them.
Trump lawyer says "demons" to blame for Trump indictments
Alina Habba, Donald Trump's lawyer, and Eric Trump, Donald Trump's son, appeared on the “Ark of Grace Ministries” show with Amanda Grace. On the program, Habba attributed the indictments against Trump to a "demonic plan," suggesting a spiritual influence behind the legal challenges. Meanwhile, Eric Trump claimed that his father's election was divine intervention, asserting that someone or something is guiding Trump every day. It’s unclear whether Alina Habba and Eric Trump genuinely believe these assertions, suggesting that they may be calculated statements catering to a specific audience within the Trump MAGA universe. Without the religious components, these comments, due to their substantial detachment from reality, would likely be indicative of mental illness.

Judge threatens to kick Trump out of courtroom
In the ongoing defamation trial against former President Donald Trump, Judge Lewis Kaplan issued a warning, threatening to expel Trump from the courtroom if he continued to disrupt proceedings. Despite emphasizing Trump's right to be present, the judge cautioned that it could be forfeited if he behaved disruptively. Trump, displaying a penchant for victimhood, appeared to welcome the threat. On Truth Social, Trump attacked plaintiff E. Jean Carroll, making claims about evidence destruction and criticizing the trial. These social media statements may serve as evidence in the defamation case, where a prior ruling established Trump's civil liability for alleged sexual assault against Carroll. The trial also witnessed Trump's lawyer, Alina Haba, engaging in contentious exchanges, raising questions about Trump's choice of legal representation and contributing to the trial's combative atmosphere.
From yesterday’s show:
Republican proposes legalizing sex with first cousins
Kentucky State Representative Nick Wilson, a Republican, proposed a bill that initially sought to legalize sex between first cousins, sharing one-eighth of their DNA. The bill aimed to remove the criminal liability for incest in such cases but was later withdrawn by Wilson, who claimed it was a drafting error. This unusual legislative move raised eyebrows, especially considering Wilson's victory in the 37th season of the CBS reality show Survivor in 2018. The incident highlights the Republican Party's current focus on social issues rather than substantive economic proposals or meaningful policy improvements, as seen in recent primary debates lacking substantial economic and foreign policy discussions. This shift has left observers questioning the party's departure from its conservative roots and its emphasis on divisive and seemingly inconsequential topics.
