Trump Lies Uncontrollably in Deranged Newsmax Interview
Donald Trump did a phone-in interview with Newsmax yesterday to talk about the upcoming recall election for governor of California. Trump wanted to do his part to support the effort to oust Gavin Newsom and replace him with Republican frontrunner, talk show host Larry Elder. Polling suggests that Newsom will retain his office as governor, which has Republicans like Trump already hedging their bets. The former president during the interview tried to get out ahead of an anticipated loss by doing what he does best — claiming the election is going to be rigged. He said, “well it’s probably rigged. They’re sending out all ballots. The ballots are mail out, mail in ballots. In fact, I guess you even have a case where you can make your own ballots.” In Trump’s world, either the Republican wins or the election was rigged. There is no possibility that a Democrat can win an election legitimately according to the right-wing worldview today. If Elder is able to pull off the victory in next Tuesday’s election, certainly Trump will take all the credit. But if Newsom wins, Trump and his fellow Republicans will say that it wasn’t fair and advocate for the passage of even more restrictive voting measures in the states they control.
COVID Denier Coughs on Shoppers at Supermarket
A woman in Lincoln, Nebraska went to a Super Saver grocery store and coughed all over the produce and a fellow customer in an effort to prove that COVID isn’t real. The woman was not wearing a mask and claimed that she didn’t need to wear one because she could have had a medical condition that would allow her not to wear one. She then made a point about how two years ago, people didn’t have to wear masks in public, which totally ignores the fact that two years ago there wasn’t a deadly pandemic raging throughout the world. This incident could actually be considered a crime, and luckily, the entire thing was caught on tape from multiple angles. The act of coughing on people could be taken up as assault in the third degree according to Nebraska law, but whether or not this woman will actually face consequences for her actions remains to be seen. Judging by the video, it’s clear that she should. At the bare minimum, this woman should have been escorted out of the grocery store so as not to endanger the shoppers around her who were simply trying to buy food and go about their day.
From yesterday’s show:
Alex Jones Has Total Ivermectin MELTDOWN
Alex Jones of Infowars went on an insane rant about Ivermectin on his program where he purported to take the drug live on air. Whether or not he actually took Ivermectin is questionable, since he appears to throw the pill under his desk and only pretends to swallow it. Jones is one of many right-wing voices who are against the COVID vaccine. He even called Donald Trump a “dumbass” for getting vaccinated and recommending that others get immunized at an Alabama rally last month. Health agencies and the makers of Ivermectin have warned people not to take the drug for treating COVID, and poison control centers have seen a spike in calls about it lately. But folks like Alex Jones are pretending that Ivermectin is the secret coronavirus cure that the government doesn’t want people to know about and only by listening to voices like his can they be in on the secret. In actuality, these people should just take the vaccine and listen to their doctor, not Alex Jones, for treatment advice if they do get COVID.
From yesterday’s show:
You DO NOT Have the "Constitutional Right" to Refuse a Vaccine
In response to vaccine mandates being enacted by businesses and local governments around the country, some people are claiming that they have a “constitutional right” to be able to go to work, schools, and entertainment venues without getting the vaccine. This is just the latest example of people on the right claiming the Constitution gives them some sort of protection that it actually doesn’t provide. If anything, legal precedent shows that people don’t have the right to avoid getting immunized. In the early 1900s, a smallpox vaccine mandate was put in place in the city of Cambridge, Massachusetts with citizens who chose not to get vaccinated being susceptible to a fine. The Supreme Court approved the city’s decision, saying that at times of crisis like a pandemic the government does have the authority to issue such mandates for the interest of the safety and security of its citizens. The rules in place, at least so far, don’t go nearly as far as the smallpox vaccine mandate in Cambridge, since the orders don’t apply to merely living in a city. Rather, they apply to when people want to get particular jobs or in some cases go to movie theaters, restaurants, and bars. While there could be some sound arguments against vaccine mandates that need to be worked through, saying people have a constitutional right to avoid them is certainly not one of them.
