Trump Suggests He'd Leave Country If He Loses to Biden
Donald Trump said something at a rally over the weekend in Macon, Georgia that should excite all of us. Trump told the crowd that running against Joe Biden is putting a lot of pressure on him because he considers Biden to be the “worst candidate in the history of presidential politics.” Trump said he wouldn’t feel so good if he lost to Biden and that he might have to leave the country in the event he loses. This could just be Trump being glib and encouraging his supporters to go out and vote, but it also could be the truth. Trump is so motivated by his narcissism and his ego that if he does lose to Biden, he may not be able to deal with the embarrassment.
It’s expected at this point that if Trump loses, he’ll pretend the election was rigged and that he actually won but was treated unfairly. Ultimately though, Trump won’t have the power to stay and he’ll have to leave the White House by January 20, 2021. It’s hard to imagine Trump then moving to a different country or completely vanishing from the public spotlight. But the thing that would drive Trump to leave the United States would be the fear of prosecution over potential crimes from, or prior to, his administration. Step one in seeing what Trump will do if he loses is defeating him at the ballot box by voting on or before Election Day.
Trump WINNING Mail-In & Early Voting in Key States
Over the past few weeks, we have been warning about Democratic complacency over the 2020 election. In 2016, the polls had Hillary Clinton winning by a comfortable margin and the theory is it prevented Hillary supporters from casting ballots, ultimately allowing Trump to win by a thin margin. Although in some areas, Joe Biden is positioned better than Hillary Clinton was in 2016, there are other signs pointing to a repeat of the last election. One of those warning signs is that Trump is currently ahead in mail-in ballots requested in certain key states.
In Michigan, Joe Biden is currently leading in the polls by an RCP average of 7%, but Biden is down in requested mail-in ballots, 39% to 41%. In Wisconsin, despite Joe Biden winning by an average of 6%, Democrats are also requesting fewer early ballots than Republicans, 38% to 40%. Other states are looking to be more in Joe Biden’s favor, like the crucial state of Pennsylvania. However, with fifteen days to go and the lesson we learned in 2016, there is no reason to think this election is in the bag for Biden. Everyone needs to make a plan to vote and get their ballot cast and counted.
From yesterday’s show:
What Can Change the Trump-Biden Race at This Point?
An audience member wrote in asking about what can change the course of the 2020 election in Donald Trump’s favor. With two weeks remaining before Election Day, there are very few opportunities left for the incumbent president to move the polls in his favor. One of those opportunities is the second and final debate, which will take place in Tennessee on Thursday. Other potential gamechangers are Joe Biden having an acute medical incident or being indicted for some made-up crime by the Trump Justice Department.
