Rittenhouse Judge Flips Out, Defense Demands Mistrial
The Kyle Rittenhouse trial continues onward with the defendant himself testifying yesterday to provide his account as to why he needed to kill two people and injure another person in self-defense. One of the strategies employed by the defense team at this point is to ask for a mistrial to be granted with prejudice over alleged prosecutorial misconduct. On several occasions yesterday, the judge in the case, Bruce Schroeder, yelled at Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger. One of the issues Judge Schroeder took issue with was for what he perceived to be a “grave constitutional violation” after Binger criticized Rittenhouse for changing his story based on previous testimony from others in the trial. The defense argued that this was a violation of Kyle’s fifth amendment right to remain silent when charged with a crime. Later on, Binger was excoriated for attempting to introduce evidence that was previously blocked by Judge Schroeder. The two incidents combined led to the defense to request a mistrial to be granted which the judge said he would take under advisement. At this stage in the case, it does not look as though Rittenhouse will be convicted on the homicide charges, and ultimatley it may not even be up to the jury to decide because the judge could intervene.
Fox News Competes for Most Dishonest Graphic in News History
Fox News put up a graphic on the US economy that could be one of the most misleading in the network’s history. The graphic portrayed the American workforce at the “Trump peak” of December 2019 on one side and Biden in October 2021 on the other side. Under the Trump column, the number was 164,579,000 and under the Biden column, 161,458,000. Underneath, there was a large red downward arrow that read “3,121,000 fewer under Biden.” This graphic is deceptive for a number of reasons: For one, Fox cherrypicked Trump’s best month because the job force has actually grown overall in America since Biden has taken office. Next, they left out the X factor that is the COVID pandemic. Both presidents had to serve in the era of COVID, but only one had that reflected in the on-screen statistic. The labor force participation rate is also not a great indictor of the overall economy. It does not take into account people who are working for low wages and people who would like to retire but need to keep working because they don’t have enough savings. Finally, both the total number of people working and the total number of people not working tend to grow over time, as the population of the United States is growing. With this graphic, Fox could teach a course on how to lie with statistics, but unfortunately most of its viewers will be unable or unwilling to see through it.

Fury Grows Over Republican Video of "Killing" AOC
Republican Congressman Paul Gosar is under fire after tweeting out an anime video depicting him fictitiously killing his colleague, Representative Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. In just about any other workplace in America, if someone made a video of them killing a co-worker, they would be fired. Sadly that’s not how things work in the United States Congress. Gosar could be subject to a House ethics violation or maybe a visit from the FBI, but he’s unlikely to lose his job or be arrested for his actions. AOC tweeted about the incident saying, “so while I was en route to Glasgow, a creepy member I work with who fundraises for Neo-Nazi groups shared a fantasy video of him killing me. And he’ll face no consequences bc @GOPLeader cheers him on with excuses.” Ocasio Cortez is right that it should be Republican leadership who take charge and reprimand Rep. Gosar, but instead it will likely have to be House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who takes the lead if any consequences are going to come Gosar’s way.

CIVIL WAR: Trump Trashes Mitch McConnell in Bizarre Statement
Donald Trump released another attack on Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. The ex-president is upset over the fact that some Republicans crossed party lines to vote with the Democrats to pass the $1.2 trillion infrastructure package. That led Trump to badmouth McConnell about not passing an infrastructure deal while he was president. He said in a statement, “why is it that Old Crow Mitch McConnell voted for a terrible Democrat Socialist Infrastructure Plan, and induced others in his Party to do likewise, when he was incapable of getting a great Infrastructure Plan wanting to be put forward by me and the Republican Party?” In 2019, it was Trump who walked away from a $2 trillion infrastructure package after promising he would pass one. The ex-president could not put aside that House Democrats were investigating him, so he tanked the negotiations. Now, all Trump can do is blame McConnell for not passing infrastructure despite having no legitimate argument to do so and to call Biden’s infrastructure bill “socialist” even though it’s smaller than Trump’s plan from two years ago.

The judge in this trial seems biased towards the defense attorneys and I find that very disturbing
