McConnell ENDS TRUMP, Congratulates Joe Biden
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has finally dispensed with Donald Trump by accepting that Joe Biden has won the 2020 election. McConnell said on the Senate floor yesterday that “the Electoral College has spoken” and that “the President-Elect is no stranger to the Senate [and] he’s devoted himself to public service for many years.” McConnell also congratulated Kamala Harris on being the first ever female Vice President-Elect. While this speech by McConnell should have been made six weeks ago, it’s important that he’s finally making it. It sends a clear signal that Trump’s coup attempt has failed and that Republicans won’t try to block Biden’s win when the votes are counted by Congress on January 6th.
Trump did not take the news well, posting on Twitter, “Mitch, 75,000,000 VOTES, a record for a sitting President (by a lot). Too soon to give up. Republican Party must finally learn to fight. People are angry!” Right on cue, QAnoners and other conspiracy theorists started accusing Mitch McConnell of being part of the deep state. It’s the same fate other right-wingers reached when they reluctantly accepted Biden’s win. McConnell joins Brian Kemp, Chris Christie, William Barr, and many others who have been thrown under the bus by Trump loyalists for accepting Biden’s victory. It’s to be determined whether this divide in the Republican Party is here to stay.
Trump Press Secy COMMITTED to Humiliation
Donald Trump’s press secretary and occasional campaign adviser Kayleigh McEnany is fully committed to humiliating herself and the country for the next five weeks. McEnany promised reporters on her first day as press secretary that she would never lie to the American people from the podium. Not only has she failed at living up to that promise, but she has been committed to doing the exact opposite. During yesterday’s press conference, McEnany maintained that we don’t know who will be president at noon on January 20th. Kayleigh said there might be a "continuation of power" into a second Trump term despite Joe Biden solidifying his Electoral College win on Monday.
McEnany went on to say that Trump is open to taking the coronavirus vaccine but that he hasn’t committed to taking it. When asked why Trump hasn’t been more visible on the vaccine rollout, McEnany argued that he’s too busy working — even though his public schedule is mostly empty. Kayleigh reiterated that Trump will veto the National Defense Authorization Act because he is upset with Twitter. Trump wants a ban on Section 230 combined with the NDAA but there’s no sign he’ll be able to get it done.
From yesterday’s show:
Trump Atty General William Barr "RESIGNS"
William Barr, Trump’s Attorney General, will be departing from the White House on December 23rd, skipping the final month of the Trump presidency. The announcement came via Trump’s Twitter page, when the president wrote, “Just had a very nice meeting with Attorney General Bill Barr at the White House. Our relationship has been a very good one, he has done an outstanding job! As per letter, Bill will be leaving just before Christmas to spend the holidays with his family.” As with all resignations from the Trump administration, we don’t know if this was forced or not. Trump has been upset with Barr in recent months for refusing to arrest political opponents and admitting that there was no evidence of wide-scale voter fraud. Perhaps Barr’s replacement, Jeff Rosen, will be willing to do the things he wouldn’t in Trump’s final days in office.
