Trump Calls URGENT Press Conference, Disintegrates Instantly
Yesterday, Donald Trump held a last-minute press conference at the White House Rose Garden for seemingly no good reason at all. Media outlets expected an announcement about coronavirus, maybe a second stimulus package, or something else. Instead, Trump rambled about China and spent much of the time attacking his opponent, Joe Biden. CNN cut away from the feed of Trump’s remarks once it became clear it was just a political stunt. Even Fox’s Bret Baier criticized the speech, saying if Barack Obama had done it, Republicans on Capitol Hill would be “up in arms.”
During the press conference, Trump said he was not worried about his reelection chances because he saw some Floridians with boats sporting pro-Trump signs. The President also said that Joe Biden would abolish the suburbs and windows if elected. Later, Trump theorized offices would be “cold in the winter and warm in the summer” under Joe Biden. It seems as though these Trump rants are getting more desperate and incoherent as his reelection chances dwindle.
OH NO: Trump Thinks "Mail-in" & "Absentee" Ballots Are Different
Donald Trump may not realize that mail-in ballots and absentee ballots are the same thing. Trump in the past has said that absentee voting is fine, because he and his family do it. However, he thinks vote-by-mail is subject to rampant fraud. It’s unclear whether Trump knows they are indeed the same or if he’s just playing dumb. For months now, there have been calls for widespread access to absentee ballots to avoid in-person voting during the pandemic. Trump has been trying to stifle that effort because he knows more people voting is bad news for his reelection chances.
What if Democrats tell Trump they are giving up on mail-in voting and instead want to expand absentee voting? Would that convince him? What Trump really wants is one set of rules for him and his ilk and another set of rules for people who don’t like him. Trump’s ideology here isn’t about election integrity, it’s once again about himself.
From yesterday’s show:
Don't Let Trumpists Trick You Into a "Culture War"
Donald Trump has doubled down on winning the “culture war” for his reelection strategy and the left should be cautious about playing into that hand. When thinking about which issues to showcase for the 2020 election, issues like coronavirus, the economy, health care, etc. should be easy wins for the left. Getting bogged down in cultural battles rather than policy battles plays right into Trump’s game plan. It’s probably not the most strategic thing for progressives to do.
