Trump Incites Violent Mob to Storm Capitol, Riots Ensue
An insurrection of the Capitol building took place yesterday by a mob of Trump-supporting domestic terrorists. January 6th was the day Congress was constitutionally required to count the votes of the Electoral College and certify the 2020 election results. Upset by this, Donald Trump scheduled an event to threaten Mike Pence and Congress and try to prevent them from doing their job. Trump spoke around noon at the Ellipse to a crowd of his supporters that climaxed with him directing people to march to the Capitol. The Trump crowd then marched down Pennsylvania Avenue and had a show of force at the Capitol that gradually led to police taking down barriers and eventually retreating into the building. The Capitol Police are being widely criticized for failing to hold the line.
Eventually, members of the Trump riot were able to break their way into the building itself. The House and Senate went into lockdown and lawmakers retreated to their offices, many fearful of their lives. Insurrectionists flooded the Rotunda and breached the Senate chamber. One woman was shot dead by police as she tried to enter the House chamber and there were a total of at least four deaths. The FBI has begun the long and arduous process of trying to identify everyone who broke into the building so they can be arrested and prosecuted. It took several hours for order to be restored and for Congress to resume its duties. All the while, Trump was at the White House amused by what was going on and waited hours before telling people to leave the Capitol.
Biden's Win CONFIRMED, Congress Defies Trumpist Mob Attack
Despite a coup attempt orchestrated by Trump supporters yesterday, Congress was able to fulfill its duty to certify the results of the 2020 presidential election. The day was supposed to be a long one, because as votes were counted there was a plan for certain Republican lawmakers to object to the votes cast by certain swing states, triggering a two-hour debate period that would repeat well into the night. After the insurrection, enough Republicans decided it would not be worth it politically to keep fighting the results and that it would be best to move the process along. The votes of Arizona and Pennsylvania were contested, but ultimately allowed to count by majorities in the House and Senate.
Several Republicans made speeches about how the events of the day were despicable. Some even moved to position themselves away from Donald Trump, including Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, Kelly Loeffler, and James Lankford. Congress expressed the need to continue on with the vote count and not allow it to be delayed after the attack against the country. Indeed, the votes of all fifty states plus Washington DC were counted and Mike Pence announced it is official: Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have won this election and now there’s not a thing that Trump or his wacky diehard supporters can do to change that.
From yesterday’s show:
Eric Trump Threatens Republicans Who Refuse to Steal Election
Before the insurrection at the Capitol took place yesterday, Eric Trump went on Fox News to threaten Republicans who failed to object to the counting of electoral votes. Eric said that any Republican lawmaker who would not “fight” for Trump would have their political career come to an end. Eric’s wife Lara Trump also appeared on Fox News this week to say Trump will “probably consider running again in 2024,” which is implicitly conceding that he lost this time. Perhaps the events of yesterday will get members of Trump’s family to change their tunes even if Trump himself will never change his.
