Tucker Carlson Says to HARASS Mask-Wearers
Fox News propagandist Tucker Carlson fanned the flames of the culture war on his program last night by encouraging his viewers to confront people they see wearing masks outside. Today, President Biden and the CDC announced new guidelines loosening outdoor mask-wearing recommendations for fully vaccinated individuals. But that policy change won’t be enough for Tucker — he wants to go further. Carlson in his segment yesterday referred to outdoor mask-wearing as a “grotesque version of Halloween that went on for over a year and it’s still going on.” He went on to say that the only people who wear masks voluntarily outside are “zealots and neurotics.” Tucker complained that people can’t walk mask-less from Union Station to the Capitol building in Washington without getting scoffed at.
Carlson tried flipping the script by telling his audience that they should be the ones going around scoffing at the outdoor mask-wearers. He wants people to go up to strangers outside and “ask politely but firmly, ‘will you please take off your mask? Science shows there’s no reason for you to be wearing it. Your mask is making me uncomfortable.’” Carlson’s message could easily lead to confrontation and it certainly will lead to more righteous indignation among the anti-mask right. Even as the CDC’s policy on outdoor masking changes, some will still want to wear a mask outside and consider it to be advantageous. Tucker, as a supposed pro-freedom conservative, should be supportive of how people choose to dress when it’s not harming other people. It’s hard to imagine how Carlson came up with this commentary, both for how little sense it makes and also for how needlessly abrasive it was.
We May Be Seeing the Death of "Fiscal Conservatism"
As the Republican Party attempts to rebrand itself post-Trump presidency, there’s a question over whether the GOP will continue pretending to be the party of “fiscal conservatism.” In truth, they never have been. Dwight D. Eisenhower was the last Republican president to balance the budget, whereas it’s been done five times since by Democratic Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson and Bill Clinton. Debt and deficits soared under GOP leaders like Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, and Donald Trump, whereas Democrat Barack Obama was able to cut the deficit in half during his tenure. Republicans, over the past few decades, have spent exorbitant amounts of money on wars and tax cuts for the rich. But anytime a Democrat wants to pass a spending program, Republicans pretend to be the ones who are better with money. Now as the GOP try to rebuild, having lost the presidency, House, and Senate, they are thinking about dropping the “fiscally conservative” mantra that they never actually lived up to.
From yesterday’s show:
70% of Trumpists STILL BELIEVE Trump's Lie That He Won Election
A new CBS poll finds that 75% of Trump supporters and 70% of Republicans believe Trump’s lie that he won the 2020 election and that Joe Biden is an illigimtate president. Some theorize that conservatives answering these poll questions are lying about how they feel about the election, either to themselves or to the pollsters. Regardless, if the number is anywhere near 70-75%, it is a disturbingly high portion of the conservative base. The poll also found that there is strong support for Biden’s infrastructure plan. Fifty-eight percent of respondents said they approve of the plan, with 87% saying they support additional spending on roads and bridges in general. The poll results also found that vaccine hesitancy has remained steady since last month, with 22% of Americans saying they have not and don’t plan to get the coronavirus vaccine.
