UH-OH: Feds RAID Rudy Giuliani's Home & Office!
The New York City home and office of former (or maybe current) Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani were raided and searched yesterday by federal agents. The search warrants were part of an ongoing investigation into possible lawbreaking actions made by Rudy while he was doing work for the former president in Ukraine. The warrant was executed at at 6:00 am, suggesting the feds may have been concerned about Giuliani destroying evidence if he caught wind of their arrival. The investigation this pertains to goes back to 2019, but it was put on pause by the Trump Justice Department, who for obvious reasons, did not want to pursue Giuliani’s possible criminality. Rudy’s son Andrew, who is weighing a run for New York Governor, made a mush-mouthed statement about how the search was such a travesty. He said, "any American, whether you are red or blue, should be extremely disturbed by what happened here today, by the continued politititation [sic] of the Justice Department.”
This is an absolutely blockbuster situation for a number of reasons, not limited to the reality that Rudy is being investigated for possible crimes committed while working as the personal lawyer for a sitting President of the United States. Rudy could end up facing charges and perhaps even serving prison time for working as an unregistered agent for a foreign country, but he’s a long way from that. If Giuliani does get into trouble, it’s conceivable that New York prosecutors could want to work with him to pursue a bigger target — Donald Trump. Yesterday’s search could be the first domino falling in a long line of criminality getting exposed, perhaps even going all the way up to the former president.
Republicans TRIGGERED by Joe Biden Speech
Joe Biden delivered his first address to a joint session of Congress yesterday and right-wingers are losing their minds over the speech. Republican Senator Tim Scott gave the official response to Biden’s speech and argued that Biden is making the country more “divided” and “anxious.” He said that “a president that promised to bring us together should not be pushing agendas that tear us apart.” The truth is that the policies Biden announced during his speech regarding paid family leave, community college, and so much more are widely popular among the American people. Topics like COVID relief and infrastructure used to be bipartisan until Biden won the presidency and Republicans went back to obstructing everything. Scott alluded to Donald Trump’s economy pre-coronavirus as being “the most inclusive in my lifetime.”
While Tim Scott was giving the official response to Biden’s address, Fox News was giving the unofficial response, trying to make it seem as though Biden’s ideas are far too radical to be popular with the American people. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy went on Sean Hannity’s program and asserted that Biden is “going to control how much meat you can eat.” McCarthy is dead wrong about this and one Fox show has already had to issue a correction on the claim that Biden’s climate plan calls for regulating meat consumption. Another personality on Fox, Katie Pavlich, said that America looked weak by not having the entire government in the House chamber for the speech like in normal years. Apparently, her concern was that foreign countries would see the United States taking the virus seriously and think we’re vulnerable to attack. Fox News and the right-wing really don’t know how to argue against this president and his agenda but it’s fun to watch them try.
From yesterday’s show:
Biden DROPS HAMMER on Troll Reporter Over Dumb Question
Joe Biden dropped the hammer on NBC reporter Peter Alexander on Tuesday when answering a question about outdoor masking. This week, the CDC and President Biden announced that they no longer recommend outdoor mask-wearing for vaccinated people in most situations. Biden wore a mask walking out to the podium to deliver the announcement, then took it off and kept it off walking back to the White House. Peter Alexander didn’t quite understand the optics of what the president was doing and asked what kind of message Biden was sending by wearing the mask on the way out to the podium. Biden quipped back that the message he was sending was about “watching [him] take it off and not putting it back on until [he gets] inside.”
