Dan Crenshaw Takes Joe Rogan for a Ride
Republican Congressman Dan Crenshaw appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience this week and made a number of nonsensical right-wing talking points that went unchallenged. One such claim was that Medicaid ought to be defunded because people on the program do not have better health outcomes than those of the same socio-economic status with no health insurance. The study Crenshaw was referring to, the Oregon Health Insurance Experiment, measured blood pressure, cholesterol, and glycated hemoglobin levels over a two-year period. It did not look at the plenty of other reasons why people seek medical attention including for pain treatment, treating infections, or lowering BMI. In fact, the study Crenshaw cites did not address ten of the top twelve reasons people go to the doctor.
Then the conversation turned to the topic of fascism. Crenshaw argued that fascism doesn’t really exist on the American right while making the case that the left are the real fascists. The congressman pointed to corporations expressing disagreement with Georgia’s new voting law as government working with businesses for fascist ends. But companies moving their operations over a policy change isn’t fascism, it’s the market. At least, that’s how the right views it when a corporation changes the location of its headquarters to pay lower taxes. Unfortunately, Crenshaw was able to deliver his arguments in a calm, confident manner and they’re likely to make a lot of headway with Joe Rogan’s audience.
Fox News "Comedy" Show Somehow Getting EVEN WORSE
Fox News’s new nightly “comedy” show “Gutfeld!” is painfully awful and somehow getting worse. The go-to joke on the show is to claim that the left and mainstream media call everything “racist.” Three nights in a row now, they’ve done a skit where two actors pretend to be CNN guests and yell at the camera that everything is racist. Greg Gutfled joked that the Masters golf tournament is racist because it uses the word “masters.” He went on to infer that master bedrooms, master chefs, and masturbation are also racist. While it’s evident that a left-wing audience wouldn’t find this funny, it’s so far unclear whether this is even working on the Fox News viewers. The live audience has so far sounded disinterested with the material. Certainly, Fox will keep trying to make “Gutfeld!” a success, but it could end up like so many other failed attempts at right-wing comedy.
From yesterday’s show:
OH NO: Matt Gaetz Asked Trump for Pre-Emptive Pardon!
Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz is in a world of trouble relating to a child sex trafficking and prostitution scandal. The consequences if he’s implicated could range from getting kicked out of Congress all the way to serving a life sentence in prison. We are now learning that Gaetz asked the prior White House for a blanket preemptive pardon in its final days. The Florida representative even went on television during the lame duck period to encourage Trump to use his pardon power aggressively to fend off future attacks from the left wing. Unfortunately for Gaetz, the former president was not receptive to his blanket pardon requests. What Gaetz apparently didn’t realize is that while Trump expects unyielding loyalty from his subordinates, he will not reciprocate if there’s no clear benefit to him.
