People Are Falling for Tucker Carlson's Populist Nonsense
Fox News host Tucker Carlson has been increasingly using populist language on his show and it’s causing some progressives to feel sympathetic for him. On some nights, Tucker’s show contains largely noncontroversial populist-sounding material, but often the underlying message behind the lofty pro-worker rhetoric is xenophobia. Tucker routinely blames foreign nationals for taking American jobs and thinks immigrants make the country “poorer and dirtier and more divided.”
People on the left who want to ally with Tucker Carlson and his ilk need to be aware of the trick that is being played. Tucker’s rhetoric is becoming increasingly deceptive. The show has had major problems with advertisers deserting him over white nationalist-sounding rants. If the show takes a stronger turn towards promoting a right-wing populist agenda, it may fool many progressives into thinking Tucker Carlson shares the same goals as them.
Kayleigh McEnany: Trump is Most Informed Person on Planet
At a briefing yesterday, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said that Donald Trump is the “most informed person on planet Earth” when it comes to threats to the United States. The remarks came as response to criticism over the Russian Bounty scandal and Trump’s refusal to do or say anything about it. The White House’s current excuse is that Trump knew nothing. However, this does not make the President look good because the National Security Council found out about this months ago. Was the President briefed? Does he not remember? Does he even care about the allegations? We may never know for sure because the White House lies so much.
McEnany’s remark that Trump is the “most informed person on Earth” really does the administration a disservice, because it’s way too hyperbolic. When Trump said he was “the least racist person” he sounded ridiculous and far less believable than if he had just said he wasn’t racist. Here we have another ridiculous excuse on top of a disastrous situation. And we have a press secretary once again having to defend the indefensible.
From yesterday’s show:
Multiple Sources: Trump Knew About Russian Bounties
Recently we learned from New York Times reporting that Russia was offering cash bounties for Taliban-connected troops who killed US or coalition troops in Afghanistan. The White House said Donald Trump wasn’t briefed on the matter. Now, the New York Times, Associated Press, and CNN are reporting about different sources who claim the President was briefed on the intelligence. If Trump did know about the bounties, it would be inexcusable that he would publicly make comments about welcoming Russia back into the G7.
