ANTI WAR TRUMP AT WAR, US OFFICIALLY JOINS WAR ON IRAN
Trump confirms the U.S. is at war with Iran, bragging that “we now control the skies”
Donald Trump, who once campaigned as an antiwar candidate and repeatedly promised to keep the U.S. out of foreign conflicts, has now confirmed that the United States is actively involved in military operations against Iran. This marks a dramatic reversal from his earlier stance, including his criticism of “forever wars” and his mockery of past presidents for engaging in them.
The conflict stems in part from Trump’s decision during his first term to unilaterally dismantle the Iran nuclear deal, despite international consensus that Iran was complying. That move heightened tensions and contributed to the current hostilities, which escalated following Israeli strikes on Iranian facilities and Iran’s retaliatory missile attacks. Although the Trump administration initially denied U.S. involvement, officials later confirmed American coordination, with Trump now publicly boasting about controlling Iranian airspace.
This development raises serious legal and constitutional questions, as the president does not have the authority to declare war without congressional approval under Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution and the War Powers Act. While past presidents have stretched these limits, the current military actions in Iran go beyond existing authorizations and lack a clear legal basis. The conflict exposes the contradictions in Trump’s foreign policy: while appealing to antiwar voters with promises to end U.S. entanglements, he has taken actions that deepen them. The consequences are already being felt on the ground, particularly by civilians, and the episode highlights broader concerns about unchecked executive power in matters of war.
