Kari Lake's new story: God told her she would lose, but have "the victory"
Failed former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake recently claimed that God told her that she would lose her election in practical terms, but still “have the victory.” Lake held a church prayer rally and stated that she had heard the Holy Spirit sealing the election outcome. During her speech, she said, “it all came to me in prayer about a week and a half before the elections and that it’s probably not going to go exactly how you think it’s going to go. The victory will still be yours, but it's not going to go the way you think it’s going to go.” Lake was essentially arguing that she would lose her election in the earthly sense but somehow win it in some other cosmic sense. Some people have questioned whether this is a grift or a sign of mental illness. While Lake's claims have been met with skepticism, there are still many who accept them, which speaks to the toxic relationship between religion and politics in the United States.
Alan Dershowitz: Arresting Trump violates the Bible
Attorney Alan Dershowitz continues to be an ardent defender of Donald Trump despite the fact that he identifies as a liberal and supposedly votes against him. However, Dershowitz likes to make the case that the attempts at holding Trump accountable for his wrongdoings would violate the Constitution or some other legal principle. Now, Dershowitz is delving into the world of religion to defend the former president. He went on Charlie Kirk’s program and said, “it’s just a violation, not only a violation of American law and civil liberties, it's actually a violation of the Bible. The Bible instructs judges two things: don't take bribes, that's obvious. But the number one thing is don't recognize faces.” Luckily, the Bible is not controlling the law in this instance and doesn’t affect whether Trump will be charged. However, if it were up to many Republicans, the Bible would actually be the law of the land and the United States would become a theocracy.
From yesterday’s show:
They're demanding Ron DeSantis block Trump's "extradition" for arrest
There is a growing call from Republicans for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to block the extradition of Donald Trump from Florida to New York if he is indicted. Some Republicans claim that the prosecution of Trump is politically motivated and that DeSantis should protect him by creating a sanctuary state for the former president. However, the power of governors to block extradition is very limited and can be challenged in court. A governor may only block extradition if the person's rights would be violated or if the request is politically motivated or improper. If DeSantis were to attempt to block Trump's extradition, it is likely that the courts would rule against him. Furthermore, governors cannot block extradition to another country that falls under federal jurisdiction. Although Trump's lawyers have stated that he would surrender, it is still unclear whether he will ultimately be arrested over these hush money payment allegations.
From yesterday’s show:
Arkansas restricts school bathroom use by transgender people
The state of Arkansas, led by Republican Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, has signed a new law prohibiting transgender individuals in public schools from using the restroom of their choice. This makes Arkansas the fourth place to enact such restrictions, following Alabama, Oklahoma, and Tennessee, all of which have faced lawsuits over their policies. The argument made by the right is that allowing individuals to use the restroom of their stated gender identity will open the door to stalking, sexual assault, and pedophilia. However, there is no evidence to support this claim. Studies have shown that trans people are more likely to be the victims of violence and harassment in public restrooms than they are to be the perpetrators. Additionally, laws already exist to protect individuals from sexual assault or harassment, regardless of their gender identity. The entire framework for these bathroom restrictions is based on fear and moral panic, rather than facts. Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ decision to sign this law is a waste of time and resources for the people of Arkansas.
