Trump 60 Minutes Meltdown Sets New Record for Shame
Donald Trump’s interview with Leslie Stahl aired yesterday on 60 Minutes and it was a total embarrassment. The interview wrapped up early and resulted in the president walking off because he thought the questions were too hard. The questions were about coronavirus, health care, unemployment, and a number of other basic political topics. They weren’t the ones Donald Trump wanted to discuss, however. Trump said, “you don’t ask Biden tough questions . . . it’s terrible, you know that.” Later Kayleigh McEnany brought Stahl a comically-oversized book supposedly containing the president’s health care plan, which of course, didn’t include an actual health care plan.
Perhaps what set Trump off was the discussion about his rallies and how they defy CDC guidelines and put people at unnecessary risk. Trump couldn’t defend himself because it’s obvious he has no regard for the health and well-being of his supporters. But what especially got under his skin was Stahl pointing out that his rallies used to be bigger. Trump responded, “you’re so negative, you’re so negative . . . You’ve just come in here with that negative attitude.” 60 Minutes also had an interview with Vice President Mike Pence who was left having to clean up the mess that Trump left him.
Sick Trump Says Doctors Inventing COVID Cases for Profit
Donald Trump went all over the country over the weekend to hold non-stop corona-rallies. The President has assessed that these will help him win, despite the raging pandemic. It’s either that or he just wants to have fun at his supporters’ expense. Perhaps the most conspiratorial and twisted Trump claim from the weekend was his assertion that hospitals and doctors are exaggerating coronavirus death counts so that they can make more money. Trump flat out said, when coronavirus deaths are confirmed, “hospitals get more money and doctors make more money.”
There is no way to take Trump’s claim seriously. Not only does he not provide any evidence for it, there is no reason to lie about cause of death because a patient dying is not profitable. A doctor named Rob Davidson who is part of the Committee to Protect Medicare said, “As a doctor, this is such an insult. We report deaths how they occur. If you did your damn job we wouldn't be reporting so many Covid-19 deaths. About 130,000 fewer according to a Columbia University study.” Unfortunately, too many of Trump’s followers watch his rallies and cling to every word he says and some will fall for this conspiracy theory like all of the others.
From over the weekend:
What Happens to Republicans After Trump?
An audience member wrote in and asked about what will happen to the Republican Party if Donald Trump loses reelection next week. In some ways, Republicans will return to their old selves, blocking whatever Joe Biden wants to accomplish and pretending to once again be debt and deficit hawks. But it’s going to be impossible to pretend that Trump never existed. If Trump keeps tweeting and making news after a loss, the Republicans will have to placate his followers because they will still make up a large share of the party. The GOP will spend some time flailing around and justifying the loss before finally making an effort to recalibrate.
