Disheveled, Swollen Trump Appears in Bizarre Fox Interview
August was supposed to be an important month for the Trump supporters who thought the ex-president was going to get reinstated following Mike Lindell’s cyber symposium. Some are still holding out hope that this is the month Trump’s coming back, like those who believe he will remerge as president on Saturday in Alabama at his “Save America” rally. Given this context, Trump found it important to give some interviews this week to his favorite Fox News hosts, one of them being Sean Hannity. During the interview, Trump looked like he just rolled out of bed and at points his right eye appeared to be swollen shut. The ex-president opened the interview by talking about Joe Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan. The ex-POTUS said “it’s a terrible time for our country. I don’t think that in all of the years our country has been so humiliated.” Trump, of course, also wanted to withdraw from Afghanistan and had he won a second term, planned to do so on an earlier timeline than Joe Biden.
Hannity followed up with another question about Afghanistan, asking the former president how he would respond to those who mention Trump would have withdrawn in the same way Biden did. What followed was a 90-second incoherent Trump rant wherein he jumped all around the world talking about different countries. Trump touched on Afghanistan before moving on to his cozy relationship with Kim Jong-un and the summits they did together. Then he went immediately on to South Korea, saying “they pay us nothing. I got them to pay billions and billions of dollars.” This answer was a total free association Rorschach inkblot test of geopolitics. Later on in the interview, Hannity asked Trump what he would do differently if he was president now. Trump misunderstood the question, perhaps deliberately, to be one about whether he plans to run again. Trump, answering his own question at this point, hinted he plans to run again in 2024 but erroneously said he’s not allowed to announce it yet because of campaign finance laws. There’s really no point of Trump doing these interviews at this point because he somehow cannot provide any insights despite having served as president for four years. But his loyal supporters appear to love it nonetheless and will tune into Fox News or wherever else to watch him anyway.
Wait, the Taliban Are GOOD Now?
Many people have been providing their hot takes on Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of Kabul on Sunday. One of the things we’re seeing now is westerners on the left and right who are saying now is the time to go back into Afghanistan to do more nation building and peace keeping. An even more bizarre thing going on is some revisionist history about and apologizing for the Taliban. An example of this is British Chief of Defense Staff General Sir Nick Carter. He was on Sky News this week to talk about how the Taliban isn’t all that bad. Carter served in Afghanistan and was deployed there in 2004 commanding British troops. The host, Kay Burley, asked Carter how he feels about collaborating with the Taliban after they’ve committed such atrocities. Carter said it’s important to remember that the Taliban are made up of “tribespeople,” they are “country boys,” and that they live by a “code of honor.” Carter went on to say about the Taliban: “they are bound together by a common purpose, which is they don’t like corrupt governance, they don’t like governance that is self-serving, and they want an Afghanistan that is inclusive for all.”
Now of course, what General Carter is ignoring in his answer is that the Taliban is responsible for countless atrocities, atrocities that could easily ramp up in the coming months and years as they form a government. The Taliban is notorious internationally for their misogyny and violence against women. Women will likely be forced to wear burqas in public. We could see systematic gender segregation, women not allowed to work, women not allowed to be educated after age 8, women only allowed to be treated by male doctors with a male chaperon, public flogging and execution for violating laws, occasional child marriage, and the list goes on and on. There is some chance the Taliban will choose to moderate to some degree to gain acceptance from certain foreign powers but there’s simply not any evidence of that yet. Hearing someone like Nick Carter make a statement like this makes one wonder exactly what he’s thinking or trying to achieve with this hot take.
From yesterday’s show:
TX Governor POSITIVE for COVID After Maskless Event
The Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, has tested positive for COVID-19. Abbott has had a disastrous approach to coronavirus all along, fully opening the state before everyone had access to vaccines and banning mask mandates at the local level. His Lieutenant Governor, Dan Patrick, early on in the pandemic said it was appropriate for old people like him to sacrifice themselves to the virus in order to save the economy and the stock market. Now, Abbott has come down with coronavirus himself and so far has had an asymptomatic case. The governor in all likelihood is going to be fine, since he is fully vaccinated and in fact has told people he received a booster shot as well. Despite having no symptoms and being fully inoculated, Abbott is also receiving the Regeneron treatment. He was testing every day for COVID all pandemic long and this week was the first time the results came back positive. The bottom line is, Abbott gets the best treatment available but he continues to downplay the virus and doesn’t want to allow local governments in Texas to put in place the most basic measures to keep their residents safe.
