8+ Republicans Who Were at Jan 6 Trump Rally Elected This Week
At least eight Republicans who were at the January 6th “Save America” rally in Washington DC, were elected to government posts on Tuesday. Three won seats in state legislatures and five won races at the local level. While it doesn’t seem as though any of them entered the US Capitol, they were confirmed to be at the rally which preceded it to show their support for the narrative that Donald Trump won the 2020 election. Dozens more Republican elected officials were at the rally on January 6th and some even spoke at it like Representatives Mo Brooks and Madison Cawthorn. Surely, many of them will get reelected when they face the voters again in the 2022 midterms. One of the Republicans who got elected into office for the first time this week (who wasn’t at the rally) is New Jersey truck driver Edward Durr, who is now a state senator-elect. When asked on Fox News Primetime what the first thing that he’s going to do when he gets to work is, he said, “I really don’t know. That’s the key factor. I don’t know what I don’t know. So, I will learn what I need to know.” The Republican Party is not bringing their best in many of these candidates and yet they’re still finding ways to defeat their Democratic challengers.
Eric Trump Delivers Humiliating Fox News Interview
Regardless of how Tuesday’s Virginia gubernatorial election turned out, it was obvious that Donald Trump would spin the results to make himself look strong and still influential over the Republican Party. If Glenn Youngkin had lost to Terry McAuliffe, the message would have been that Youngkin didn’t embrace Trump enough and that he should have invited the former president to his rallies. Instead, Youngkin pulled off the victory, so Trump can say that Youngkin won because of his endorsement. Case in point, Trump’s son Eric went on Sean Hannity’s Fox News program yesterday and called Youngkin’s win a victory for the Trump movement. He said, “what a great night this was for the US and what a great night it was for frankly, Trump.” Hannity followed up by pushing the misconception that Trump has a near-flawless track record for endorsements when in truth, it’s nothing special. In the 2018 midterms, Trump endorsed 75 candidates and only 55% of them won on Election Day. In the 2020 race, Trump endorsed 183 candidates and 77% of them won. Many of these endorsees were incumbents anyway who have a higher chance of winning as it is. But in these right-wing circles, the truth takes a back seat to whatever Trump wants to claim to make himself look in charge.
From yesterday’s show:
FED UP Republicans Buy "Trump Lost" Billboards in Texas
There’s a group of anti-Trump Republicans in Texas who are buying up billboards reading “Trump Lost” with the text “no more ‘audits’” underneath it. The billboards are sponsored by an organization called Republicans for Voting Rights, and so far, they’ve poured $250,000 into the project. In addition to putting up the signs in Texas, they’ll also be overseeing highways in Georgia, Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Arizona. While it’s sad that some right-wingers around the country need something as obvious as a billboard to tell them that Trump lost, the fact is that many of them do need that. While there are many Trump supporters who think that the election was legitimately stolen from them, most Republican politicians are smart enough to know better. The see perpetuating “the big lie” as part of a loyalty test to Trump and fear that if they turn on him their future in right-wing politics will be over.
From yesterday’s show:
BREAKING: Prescription Drug Price Controls BACK IN the Bill
It appears as though prescription drug price controls could be making their way back into the Democrats’ $1.75 trillion spending bill. Senator Bernie Sanders has been fighting hard to make this happen and now the offices of Senator Kyrsten Sinema and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer are confirming it’s back in the bill. Sinema’s communication director put out a statement that read in part, “the Senator welcomes a new agreement on a historic, transformative Medicare drug negotiation plan that will reduce out-of-pocket costs for seniors - ensuring drug prices cannot rise faster than inflation - save taxpayer dollars, and protect innovation . . .” Senator Schumer followed up with an announcement, saying “I’m pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached to lower prescription drug prices for seniors and families in the Build Back Better legislation.” While many progressives are upset with what this spending package has become and how much has been removed, it’s still a win to get drug price controls back in the bill. Americans spend more on prescription medications than any other country in the developed world and maybe now that can change for the better.
